Get the skills and experience to become a reflective and professional acupuncturist at London South Bank University (LSBU)

Our courses offer a unique blend of Chinese medicine, language, culture and biomedical sciences and are accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB).

Acupuncture has developed considerably in the western world in recent years with increasing interest from the public, health care professionals and policy makers. This means there is now a greater demand and opportunity to study acupuncture using western scientific methods and it is an exciting time to be part of the acupuncture profession.

About the course

London South Bank University offers courses in:

BSc (Hons) Chinese Medicine: Acupuncture

3 years full-time / 5 years part-time

M.CMAc Chinese Medicine: Acupuncture

4 years fill-time

As well as a broad foundation in the theory and application of acupuncture, you will gain a strong knowledge in Chinese language and culture, and extensive clinical experience. You will acquire a thorough understanding of western biomedical sciences and research methodologies, with training throughout the course at LSBU’s teaching clinic based on the Southwark campus.

Modules covering Chinese medicine, language and culture are taught by experienced lecturers from China. You will learn from practitioners based in the UK to gain a more complete picture and understanding of the skills required to be a reflective and professional acupuncture practitioner in the West.

Clinical experience is central to understanding and a vital practice of acupuncture. Experienced lecturers from LSBU will provide a thorough foundation in biomedical science and modern research. You will also study alongside other health care professionals and develop the skills to be a professional acupuncturist.

You’ll have the opportunity to apply for an extended clinical placement in a Chinese hospital, which will include studying at our partner institution, Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. For this, there’s a scholarship funded through our Confucius Institute which covers tuition fees, accommodation and airport transfers from Beijing to Harbin, Heilongjiang.
