Retreats

“Angus’s relaxed, easy going style of teaching is powered by a deep understanding of the essence of tai chi and qigong. He skillfully shares this to create a rich and rewarding atmosphere.”

Fri 1 – Sun 3 October Autumn Retreat

Courses commence at 6pm
(you can arrive from 4pm) Friday and finish 4pm Sunday.
Cost: £210 – 230 (sliding scale) shared accommodation (2/3 bed)
£250 single.

These retreats are open, which means that you’re welcome whatever your level of experience in tai chi and qigong: if you are new to tai chi, here’s a great chance to make a start. And if you’re familiar with it (any style) already then here’s a good opportunity to deepen your understanding and skill.

You’ll work with principles from the essence of tai chi and qigong in both its solo and partner aspects to bring you vitality, inspiration and insights.

You can expect to eat well, rest well, exercise well, study your tai chi and qigong, enjoy some excellent conversations, meet up with old friends and make new ones.

You’ll have time to ponder; to be quiet and still; as well as time to laugh, fool around, drink wine, chat and enjoy the excellent Sharpham food.

“Fantasticly restorative. I feel like my soul and body have joined up”

Sharpham is easy to get to and wonderfully placed, overlooking the Dart river valley just south of Totnes. They offer exceptionally good vegetarian food (much of it from their organic garden) and comfortable accommodation.

Camps

Camps 2010
there are 2 camps this year:

1. The Summer Camp
Wed 11 – Sun 15 August (4pm Wed till 4pm Sunday)

South Dornaford, Okehampton, Devon EX17 3RF

The Summer Camp
is a Living Movement event, tradition even, that’s been running since 1990. Now in it’s 5th year at South Dornaford Farm, people come from all over the country to enjoy, share, play, learn, feast, and generally have a great time together.

You can come for the whole event, part of it or by the day.

Most people camp, though there are now 3 indoor rooms to choose from if you prefer a bed.

You are welcome as a complete novice to tai chi or as a seasoned enthusiast. There’s always a good mix of people and one of the joys is people sharing their own interests and talents.

The philosophy

Living Movement is more than just tai chi. Tai Chi and Qigong are the main vehicles for exploring human wellness, health and consciousness. At the Summer Camp there's more space to explore - that's why we include art, massage and impromptu games/events/ discussions as a way to explore different aspects of being human together.

The place

There’s lots of space at South Dornaford. It sits in 200 acres of meadow and woodland bordering the river Okement. It’s the perfect place for a camp - the sessions are fun with venues ranging from woodland to riverside meadow to marquee to converted barn dojo/studio, there is plenty of feasting and the camp fire burns from start to finish.

Options, costs, booking and further info:

The costs vary depending on what you choose to do. Please email me for a booking form, which has all options and costs: angus@livingmovement.com There is a sliding scale, which means that you are asked to pay what you are willing and able within the given range.

Directions
Barefoot Barn: TQ13 8HE

**there is no parking at Barefoot Barn so please allow time to park in the village and make the 10 minute walk to the venue **The Barefoot Barn is at a house called Eaglehurst, on the edge of Chagford.

From the North, East or West: 16 miles west of Exeter / 6 miles east of Okehampton leave the A30 dual carriageway at Merrymeet junction (formerly roundabout) and take the A382 through Whiddon Down village (half mile on (past services on right and pub on left—the bus from Exeter stops near the pub at Whiddon Down). Then take the left turning at the first roundabout (the A382 – to Moretonhampstead and Chagford). After about 5 miles, the main Chagford turning is on the right and is well signposted, take this turning. *Drive to the centre of Chagford. Turn left at the square and follow signs to the main town car park.

To find Eaglehurst and the Barefoot Barn walk from the car park through the Square with Webber and Sons and Bowdens hardware to your left. Continue down the road about 300 yards until you reach a fork. Take the right fork (Mill St) signposted for Gidleigh. After about another quarter of a mile - Eaglehurst is the big house with a circular drive on the left, just after the crest of the hill. Walk through the drive, bear to the right of the house. The Barefoot Barn is through the second double gate (20 yards on from Eaglehurst house).

From South Devon Travelling north-east on the A38 take the A382 northwards (this is signposted to Bovey Tracey) Stay on the A382 driving past Bovey Tracey and through Moretonhampstead. About four miles past Moretonhampstead, look for the Chagford turning opposite a thatched inn (Easton Cross). *Take this turning on the left. Drive to centre of Chagford and follow instructions as above.

Throwleigh Village Hall, Wonson: EX20 2JA
(Landmark - Northmore Arms) **Throwleigh Village Hall is not in Throwleigh! it’s in Wonson, about a mile south of Throwleigh **

From Okehampton/Exeter North, East, West: 16 miles west of Exeter / 6 miles east of Okehampton leave the A30 dual carriageway at Merrymeet junction (formerly roundabout) and take the A382 through Whiddon Down village (half mile on (past services on right and pub on left—the bus from Exeter stops near the pub at Whiddon Down). Then take the left turning at the mini - roundabout (the A382 - to Moretonhampstead and Chagford). After 300m turn right for Throwleigh and Gidleigh.

Follow this little road for a mile or so, passing through the hamlet of East Ash and ignoring the left fork to Chagford. At the bottom of a steep hill there is a small humpback bridge with a left or right option just after it. Take the left towards Wonson, not the right to Throwleigh. Follow this little road, joining another along the way, to pass by, curling up and around the Northmore Arms pub, on your right, about a mile after the bridge. Up the short steep hill, the village hall is a kind of nissen-hut on your left, before you get to the top of the hill. However, best to go to the top, around the chestnut tree and back down into the driveway. Plenty of parking.

From Newton Abbot or South Devon: Exit the A38 at Drumbridges junction (Newton Abbot/Trago Mills exit) and take the A382 north through Moretonhampstead. Go past the turning to Chagford, pass the Mill End Hotel, through Sandy Park and follow the road all the way to Whiddon Down. 300m before the mini roundabout take the left, marked Throwleigh and Gidleigh. Then as above.
