SERVICES

Welcome to Jo Crill Physiotherapy

Jo qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1976 from St Mary's Hospital Paddington. In 2000 she gained the Upledger International Certificate of Theory and Practice of CranioSacral Therapy. Jo started her Private practice in 1990 since then she has undergone extensive training in Visceral Manipulation and CranioSacral Therapy. In 2006 she started teaching Visceral Manipulation at the introductory level and has written several magazine articles on Visceral Manipulation.

Jo enjoys the challenge of locating and releasing tissue tensions deep within the body, these are very often not at the site of the patients symptoms but they are usually the root cause of those symptoms.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST)

The CranioSacral System consists of the bones of the skull (cranium), face, spine and Sacrum as well as their connecting membranes, the Dural Membranes. The CranioSacral System, which like that of the Cardiovascular system, is a physiological system and therefore has it's own inherent rhythm, the CranioSacral Rhythm. The Therapist is able to palpate and evaluate the rhythm anywhere on the body and by using light, non-invasive touch able to facilitate self balancing of the CranioSacral system i.e. the Therapist allows the body to self correct rather than imposing on the body what he/she thinks it needs.

Jo started her CST training in 1994 with the Upledger Institute and has completed the workshops to the Advanced Level. In 2000 she gained The International Upledger Certification in Theory and Practice of CranioSacral Therapy. She regularly is a teaching assistant on many of the Upledger workshops.

Visceral Manipulation

Visceral manipulation can be described as a manual therapy consisting of gentle, light, specifically placed manual forces that encourage normal mobility, tone and inherent tissue motion of the organs and their connective tissues. These manipulations have the potential to affect normal physiological function of individual organs, the systems they function within and the structural integrity of the entire body. This work has been developed by Jean-Pierre Barral a world renowned French Osteopath.

Jo has had extensive training with Jean-Pierre Barral and currently assists on Visceral workshop and teaches Introductory Visceral manipulation workshops.

VM News letter 2010
Jo Crill

I can hardly believe that it is 4 years ago that I started the Introductory visceral classes, so much water has flowed under the bridge since then that I thought it was time to update you.
I continue to teach basic abdomen parts l and II and basic thorax for CPDO and independently and also attending Jean-Pierre’s courses. I have gained his permission and blessing to teach his work.
It has become apparent that knowing your anatomy is essential for gaining good results with VM. Two courses that I can recommend that will help you achieve this are as follows:

Six Day Practical Whole Body Dissection Course
In August last year I did a 6 day intensive dissection course at St George’s hospital. It was a truly amazing, humbling and awe inspiring experience. The special way the bodies had been preserved meant that they were floppy and that everything was in colour (just like the anatomy books!).
The American, Gil Hedley leads the experience with humour and compassion. I really cannot rate this course highly enough. In fact I will be repeating it again this year on 19th – 24th July 2010 at St Georges. If you are interested in this unique learning please contact Caroline Le Vine on 01373 832340 or her at email quoting my name. If you are out of town and need accommodation for this course I am able to offer beds (when the builders finally leave the house finished!!).
Know Your Viscera Course

Alternatively the College of Body Science, Caroline Barrow is putting on a two day course on 22nd – 24th May 2010 called Know Your Viscera. You can contact them via www.collegeofbodyscience.co.uk
