SERVICES

Welcome to Jill Goodhew - Psychotherapist

I am an accredited member of the BACP which is the professional organisation for therapists.

About me

I run my private practice from consulting rooms in Ashley Cross. My theoretical approach to psychotherapy is integrative underpinned by the Clarkson Relationship model which places emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. I have regular supervision with a qualified and experienced supervisor and am in regular ongoing personal therapy. I hold professional and personal liability insurance.

I have been working as a therapist since 1997 when I qualified with a CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I have since attended further training at the Institute of Psychosynthesis in London, Professor Petruska Clarkson’s Physis Institute in Harley Street, London and Southampton University where I attained a First Class BA (Hons) in Counselling. I became accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in May 2004 and abide by the BACP Ethical framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. You can read more about this at www.bacp.co.uk.

I work with adults, both one-to-one and couples and adolescents. Some clients refer themselves, others are referred by doctors, employers or personal recommendation.

I keep abreast of new developments and research about therapy and the world in general by engaging in continual professional development of my own practice in a variety of ways:

  • By attending courses and workshops throughout the year

  • By reading journals and topical books

  • By watching popular and independent films both in English and foreign languages

  • By participating in media interviews and discussions on contemporary issues

About therapy

There are a lot of reasons why I believe therapy works. Research has shown that relationship, or the interconnectedness between two people has been significant in all healing since the time of Hippocrates. I believe that the relationship between a therapist and a client is unique, partly due to the mutual respect for each other and partly the confidentiality afforded. This unique relationship enables clients to trust and participate in a collaborative process which is transparent and where the sole focus of the therapist’s attention is the client.

Some people come to therapy because they are frustrated with an aspect/s of their lives and want to talk to someone who will listen to them, where they will be heard and accepted for who they are. Others may come to therapy because they are feeling so unhappy and may have reached desperation point. Others come for personal development and further exploration of their lives' journey. Whatever reason you choose to come to therapy, I will offer you a safe environment where we can work through the uncomfortable issues in your life, past and present, without you being advised, talked at or judged.

Through my training and my own personal therapy, I am able to be with my clients retaining autonomy and engaging with my clients’ diversity however that is presented.

Some of the issues I work with are…

  • relationship difficulties

  • stress

  • anxiety

  • identity issues

  • depression

  • sexual, emotional and physical abuse

  • disordered eating

  • loss and bereavement

  • past and present trauma
