Our bodies are amazing!

Our bodies learn to adapt around the strains, stresses and injuries that we encounter throughout our lives – from our early experiences of life in the womb, through birth and on into adulthood. Generally our bodies cope and work around everything that is thrown at them but sometimes this can lead to pain and dysfunction which can be held deep within the tissues.

Upledger CranioSacral Therapy (CST) can help to address the source of the pain and dysfunction via the central nervous system and the soft tissues and bones that surround it. Addressing the source of the dysfunction can improve and enhance our body’s health and well-being. Sometimes that is all that is needed by the body – a little gentle assistance to reset its path to health.

What can CranioSacral Therapy help?

People seek CranioSacral Therapy sessions for a wide range of reasons. CranioSacral Therapy is also used as a preventative form of healthcare, to keep the CranioSacral system in the best condition to enhance the body’s natural healing ability.

Conditions include:
• Back and neck pain
• Headache and migraine
• TMJ dysfunction, jaw and dental pain
• Stress and tension related problems
• Hearing difficulties, including tinnitus
• Post surgical recovery
• Orthopaedic problems
• Chronic Fatigue / ME / Post viral fatigue
• Fibromyalgia and other connective tissue disorders
• Colic, reflux, sleep disturbances etc

CranioSacral Therapy (CST)

CST is a very gentle, light touch therapy that can be very powerful and effective for people of all ages, from newborns through to the eldery. It can help to release tensions deep within the body which in turn can help to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance.

What does CranioSacral mean?

The CranioSacral system consists of the bones, soft tissues and fluid that surround and nuture your brain and spinal cord. Any imbalances within the system can have an impact on your central nervous system and in turn your general health and well-being.

Everyday stresses and strains are absorbed by our bodies but only so much can be handled before it has an effect on the tissues which can begin to tighten or change. This includes not only physical injuries but emotional ones too.

Allowing the body to relax and self-correct enhances the body’s ability to perform at its best. CST may therefore help to reduce your pain and enhance your general health and well-being.

What to expect during a session

Treatments are carried out on a therapy treatment table and generally last for 45 minutes to an hour. Treatments are gentle and relaxing and are carried out through your clothes.

The session will usually begin with your therapist assessing the CranioSacral rhythm at various points on your body. Treatment will then begin and can be directed at any part of your body including treatment at your head and down the length of your spine. CranioSacral therapy is an holistic treatment where the therapist will treat the signs that the clients body reveals, this will not necessarily be at the location on the body where the pain, discomfort or symptoms are felt.

Initially a couple of treatments are recommended to allow the client and therapist to assess whether the client is responding well to treatments.

What you experience from a treatment is highly individual and can be different each time. Typically people report feelings of warmth, softening, pulsing in the area that the therapist is working and generally they feel deeply relaxed.

After a treatment it is recommended that the client ensures that they are well hydrated and allow their body a short period of rest. Your symptoms may be heightened for a short while. This is perfectly normal but if you are worried please get in touch. It is possible that you also may feel tired following a treatment and require a short lie down. However , this is not the case for everyone and many people also report feeling energised – everyone is different. If you feel tired then try to allow your body to rest.

The body can continue processing the changes that have been made for several hours or days following a treatment.

Testimonials

"My 12 year old son suffers from severe migraines that build up over a period of time. He now visits Kate twice a year. Even during his treatment you can see the tension disappear from his face and body. His feedback always is that his head feels so much lighter, he sleeps much better and his mood improves. I cannot recommend Kate enough. Without her, my son's life would be impossible at times."

"I feel so lucky to be able to have these wonderful treatments. They seem to focus on different parts of my body each time!"
