The practice has been operating for many years although has been in hibernation for the last three. Originally based in the tin mining area of South West Cornwall Hathor Natural Healing has recently re-opened in Poole, Dorset.

What is in a name?

What is in a name? Well quite a lot, the story behind my practice name is one that harks back to a goddess in Ancient Egypt. The goddess Hathor was known for many things such as joy and motherhood but one of her lesser known roles was that of a healer. The goddess assists us to release, heal and allow negative thought patterns and negative beliefs to flow away.

Reiki

Reiki is an ancient form of healing originating in the Buddhist traditions of the East. It was rediscovered in 1922 by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist and scholar who developed the method into a complete practical healing system which can be used on people, animals or plants.

Usui Reiki is an incredible system of healing, open to anyone wishing to learn it. All that is required is the conscious desire to learn the system. Once the student has received the attunements from an experienced Reiki master, the power will flow easily. Reiki is a simple and effective method for opening up the healing powers within you, accessing healing on many levels and creating balance in mind, body and spirit.

Karuna Reiki has been developed from Usui Reiki. It has been developed by William Lee Rand – Reiki Master. It is taught to those at the Usui Reiki Master level in two levels. It is considered to be a higher level of energy than Traditional Usui Reiki.

 Reiki Training Courses and Attunement

I would like to introduce Reiki to you. This amazing therapy can be practiced after a single training course. Practitioners work through three degrees:

• The first degree takes 14 hours training and afterwards a practitioner can treat themselves and their friends/relatives (informally).
• The second degree (14 hours) is taken 4 – 6 months later and enables a practitioner to treat clients as well. Distance healing also becomes available after 2nd degree.
• The third degree is aimed at those who wish to teach others. This training takes 14 hours and is only available after at least 9 months of practice at 2nd degree.
• Master Teacher takes 20 hours and includes observed teaching. Both the Second and Third degree courses are now registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

Reiki is an ancient system of healing, rediscovered in the 19th Century. The word Reiki means universal life force or energy and during treatment the practitioner acts as a channel through which this healing energy flows into the client. It is thought that the energy flows to the areas where it is needed and it is commonly experienced as feelings of love, heat or tingling.

During a Reiki session, the client remains fully clothed, usually either lying on a couch or seated. The practitioner works on the physical body and also in the energy field around the body following their intuition about where the healing is needed for the highest good of the client.

Alternative Therapies

Although my main focus is on the teaching and giving of Reiki I am also trained in:

Buteyko Breathing – a breathing technique developed during the 1950s by a Russian scientist – Dr. Konstantin Buteyko. This is a harmless method of breathing using the diaphragm to slow and steady breathing and avoid mouth breathing. Used properly, Butyeko breathing may help asthma sufferers.

Bowen Therapy – a hands on therapy that uses very gentle pressure. The therapist uses their hands to gently roll the soft tissue in a series of unique moves. This helps to stimulate the muscles and soft tissues.

My name is Annie Harrington and I am the business owner and manager of Hathor Natural Healing.

I was introduced to Reiki by my GP in 2003. After a very real dream that night I realised that I needed to learn more (Reiki is so often something that calls you rather than you actively going out and finding it).

In 2004 I joined a 1st degree group that my Reiki Master Robert France was teaching.

At the time this was in the surgery of a homeopath in London. From that day onwards I knew I had made a connection with Reiki and I know I shall have the universal energy with me always.

I am now a Usui Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher plus I am also a Karuna Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher.

I am passionate about Reiki and truly believe in the positive impact it has upon those who find it.
