Welcome to David Ward Counselling ServicesI work with an integrative approach to counselling, which means that I combine more than one theoretical approach depending on the needs and issues of the client.

- Panic attacks
- Stress issues
- Relationship issues
- Bereavement
- Loss and grief
The service offeredSessions offered are for 50 minutes, with a frequency which is usually once a week at a set time and day.
The initial meeting or ‘assessment’ is an opportunity for issues and problems to be explored and for a decision taken by both of us, as counsellor and client, as to whether or not we wish to work together.
We may then agree to a number of sessions that are relatively brief, for example six or eight in number, or we might agree to leave the time and number of sessions open-ended.
About MeI am a BACP Member and work within the BACP Code of Ethical Practice. I have an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regent’s College London, validated by the City University.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy to adult individuals. Counselling I see as tending to focus around a single issue and taking place over a shorter period of time relative to psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is more to do with making change over a longer period, rather than managing a distressful ‘symptom’ or dealing with a single issue.
In reading this and thinking about coming to counselling and therapy, you may have identified issues, or feel that you have symptoms with which you need to deal. Or, that it would be enabling for you to explore and develop a greater understanding of the issues and yourself. There may have been a recent event in your life – such as a loss – that has triggered difficult and uncomfortable feelings. You may feel, alternatively, that an issue has been building up for you for some time.
Counselling provides a private and confidential space for you to talk about your experiences and feelings in a way that perhaps will give you a different sense of perspective. This space is aimed at being containing and holding. Friends and relatives – even with the best of intentions – may well have their own agendas and be making their own judgements. The counselling process is non-judgemental and without criticism. It may help you reflect on predominant patterns in relationships. The aim of counselling is a better understanding of those relationships, enabling you to be with them and manage them more effectively. You may then be in a better position to change if you wish.
