Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. These conditions include the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves of the body, particularly those of the spine. The emphasis of treatment is to restore optimum functioning of the nervous system and the communication between the brain and the body.
Massage is known to be one of the oldest physical therapies in use today, and has many forms. Sports massage is defined by the Sports Massage Association as ‘... the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body, including muscles, ligaments and tendons.’
Others define it as a combination of the techniques of the more gentle Swedish massage and the deep-acting shiatsu, specifically catered to the needs of athletes before and after sporting events, as well as when used on a regular maintenance basis. However it is not only recommended for those who participate in sports, as its remedial actions are widespread for all ages and walks of life.
Pilates (pronounced pil-ah-tees) is a gentle but very effective fitness system, developed over 85 years in the early 20th century, by Joseph Pilates from Germany. The aim is to elongate, strengthen and balance the body, using the mind to control the major muscles of the body (hence its originally intended name of ‘Contrology’). The major muscles primarily targeted are the abdominal groups, buttocks, lower back and hips, collectively termed as the body’s ‘core’ muscles.
The principles of Pilates are based on control, correct alignment and centering of the core, with the movements precise, controlled and smooth, and the correct breathing technique adopted throughout. By carrying out small, controlled movements alongside optimum breathing and correct spinal alignment, these muscles are gradually strengthened, giving vital support to the spine.
Our philosophy is that of self-empowerment. You are in charge of your health. Maintenance of Physical fitness = Self Empowerment.
Acupuncture seeks to help restore the smooth flow of qi and blood in the body, thus stimulating the body's own healing and defence mechanism. We are nothing without our health. Health is the foundation upon which we build and achieve anything in life. Let this slip, or take it for granted and you may compromise your full potential and enjoyment of life. Health is not a fixed state. It is a constant 'battle', a constant changing within the body to adapt to its surroundings and the stresses we put it through, as well as the imperfections with which we are born.
Health is the ability of the body to adapt to its changing environment - both internal and external.
When your body losses its ability to adapt, acupuncture can help. If you are too busy or don't have the patience, time, inspiration and know-how to make the necessary lifestyle changes to overcome your ailments, acupuncture can help.
At the Back On Track clinic, treatments are tailored to individual needs and vary greatly depending on the individual's requirements and condition.
