Welcome to Aberdeen School of Shiatsu

Shiatsu – a therapeutic form of bodywork that uses pressure in the acupoints. Sessions are done through clothing. Shiatsu works with physical emotional and mental conditions to revitalise, relax and rebalance. Founded upon Traditional Chinese Medicine this is a powerful form of bodywork that can be used to maintain health or to treat a wide variety of conditions.

Craniosacral therapy – a gentle form of bodywork that uses light pressure to tune in to areas of pain or tension and help them to relax. It is frequently used on babies with colic or from traumatic births. It is suitable for all ages and conditions to unwind trauma that is stuck in the connective tissue. Treatments are very relaxing and may also release emotions that have been held in from past trauma.

La Stone Massage - the original hot and cold stone massage. Both hot and cold stones and crystals may be placed under and on the body and also used for massage. This is a deeply relaxing treatment that is a great chill out or can be used to treat conditions that respond to heat or cold.

Hopi ear candles - these are tubes of cotton stiffened by beeswax, which are placed over the entrance of the ear canal and they warm and draw out wax. This can help with blockages and sinus problems. Shiatsu or massage of the area is also done to increase the benefits.

About Shiatsu

Shiatsu is form of therapeutic bodywork which has its roots in Japan and China. It dates back over 4000 years, but the impulse to touch and heal dates from the beginnings of humankind. Eastern medicine developed along different lines from modern Western medicine. Rather than following a physical and chemical focus on health, it looks at people energetically, seeing the energy each organ needs and how that is reflected in our whole being.

The word Shiatsu means 'finger pressure', and we use pressure on the acupuncture meridians and points to relieve pain, restore energy, and help bring the recipient's body back into a state of balance. If the flow of our energy is blocked or restricted, our health will suffer. Shiatsu gives us a rest, time to take a break and restore the harmony our body longs for.

Shiatsu is becoming more and more popular as a safe, non-invasive form of treatment. It complements our modern society's quest for the benefits of touch therapies. Our clients have found it useful in cases of headache, back pain, depression, insomnia, menstrual difficulties, ME, frozen shoulder and many more.

Studying Shiatsu at Aberdeen School of Shiatsu

At Aberdeen College of Shiatsu we teach a full and complete Practitioner Training Course in Shiatsu. The course meets the guidelines of The Shiatsu Society, the UK's Governing Body for Shiatsu.

The full course lasts three years. We offer the course in 4 parts and you are free to take your studies as far as you wish, many student do part of the course for their own health and self development.

The focus of the teaching in the School places great emphasis on the quality of touch and the energy work surrounding Shiatsu. This supports the theory and makes the practical aspects feel truly relevant.

Shiatsu is not just a treatment which is done to others. It is very much about the self. Therefore growth work and self-exploration are essential parts of the training of a good Shiatsu Practitioner. Within the School we provide support teachers to help students in the Shiatsu and in their self development. We also look at food and lifestyle changes to improove your health.
