Welcome to Shiatsu Zen

The aim of these pages is to introduce you to Shiatsu, and tell you something about the courses I run, and how to get in touch to arrange individual sessions in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage technique for promoting natural balance in your body.

I believe that Shiatsu massage can be of enormous benefit to people. If you live in the Edinburgh area and are interested in Shiatsu, you can find out more about individual sessions and courses that I offer.

About Tamsin

I am a qualified teacher and practitioner and a fully-insured Member of the Register of the Shiatsu Society (MRSS T). I graduated from the Glasgow School of Shiatsu in 1992 having studied the Zen Shiatsu (Masunaga) style, including Five Element (Chinese Medicine) theory, anatomy, pathology and counselling skills, plus related exercises and diet.

Since then I have continued to further my studies, concentrating recently on Shiatsu during pregnancy and with babies and children (working with Suzanne Yates and Peter Walker); and Shiatsu as part of cancer care.

I have practised Shiatsu in various settings, notably Scottish Widows (two and a half years), The Scottish Office, and Body Positive (supporting those who are HIV positive or who have AIDS, and their relatives).

Teaching experience includes weekly adult beginners classes and weekend courses for The City of Edinburgh Council; independently-run one-day starter workshops; five-week courses of Baby Shiatsu for parents of new-born babies; and a series of Baby Massage/Shiatsu training seminars for Health Visitors for Fife Health Board throughout the principality. I have also pioneered parent-child Shiatsu workshops in which adults and older children are taught effective techniques for giving Shiatsu to each other. This has received some media attention.

In 2000 I started The Shiatsu School, Edinburgh with two colleagues, Audicia Morley and Cynthia Shuken. We offer one- and two-year courses for both personal development and Shiatsu Practitioner Training (the venue for the third year is to be confirmed). We are associated with The Glasgow School of Shiatsu. The course is open to those who have some experience of Shiatsu although it is possible to join the course in other circumstances if agreed with the tutors.
