Welcome to Yoga Junky

Yoga Junky’s™ ethos is about empowerment and fun! Not just empowering you as you overcome your body’s limitations, but more importantly empowering you as you overcome the limitations of the mind (for it is only the mind which holds us back from reaching our full potential!). It’s also about not taking ourselves too seriously, we can have fun with yoga, life is for enjoying.

‘Beware of that boomerang!’..

Yoga for suits

Did you know that 12 million working days are lost to British industry due to back problems, 316 million to colds and viruses and 7 million to stress? Yoga can help with all of these, a simple investment in yourself/staff can bring more effective working hours which translates as more times at the desk not at home in bed.

Yoga is the ONLY system that looks at the body as a WHOLE. When there are areas of tightness in the body it causes blockages, energy (oxygen/nutrients/hormones etc) is restricted creating a malfunction. If these systems are not in harmony then stress is built up in the body, making the body and all its systems (muscular, skeletal, cardiovascular, immune, endocrine, digestive and nervous) unable to function at their prime optimum. Yoga brings balance back to the body enabling it to work at its most effective.

Like anything in life it is all about balance, when our lives are in balance everything is working well and going smoothly but when we take on too much, every thing falls apart and this is our warning sign that something needs to change. It's the same with the body, when the body is in balance it works efficiently but when it is out of balance things start to go wrong, we get ill, the body shuts down because it want to heal itself but what do we do we 'pop pills' to enable us to 'carry on'. We don't listen to the body and we wonder why our immune system is 'shot to pieces' we pick up bug after bug and we just don't seem able to shrug it off, we have lost the ability to listen to our bodies and this is manifesting itself more and more in the work place. Yoga Junky™ offers Yoga Junky™ for Skirts and Suits, classes specifically tailored for the workplace.

Yoga for sports

Yoga is the ONLY system that looks at the body as a WHOLE. When there are areas of tightness in the body it causes blockages, energy (oxygen/nutrients/hormones etc) is restricted creating a malfunction. If these systems are not in harmony then stress is built up in the body, making the body and all its systems (muscular, skeletal, cardiovascular, immune, endocrine, digestive and nervous), unable to function at their prime optimum.

When the physical or emotional body is out of alignment/harmony it causes areas of ‘slumping’, which produces tension in the muscles, the muscles then press onto the bones (which are then vulnerable to injury and osteo-arthritis because the lubrication cannot get through to joints). Oxygen and nutrients can’t get through to feed muscles, so the muscles tire easily (most injuries occur because of muscle fatigue) and contract causing tightness particularly in the shoulders, lower back and legs (yoga releases the muscles not only through the stretching but psychologically by reducing the stress response of the sympathetic nervous system).

The brain is also starved of oxygen which manifests itself in tiredness, fatigue and depression, creating tightness in the chest, causing shallow breathing (which leads to not enough oxygen in blood stream, inducing less efficient blood-oxygen exchange which can lead to a lot of physical problems, the body’s organs cannot function properly). So you see it is a domino effect, when one area of the body malfunctions it has a knock on effect for the whole body. When injuries keep occurring it is the body talking to us, we have just lost the ability to listen to our bodies, because where pain manifests itself is not necessarily where it has originated from (for instance, infection in the kidneys can manifest its as back pain, yoga strengthens not just the exterior body but also works on the internal body).

So you see the body HAS to be looked at as a WHOLE and yoga is the ONLY system which offers this. Just imagine if yoga could be taken into your sport I wonder how different the outcome would be.

Testimonials

Vanessa’s yoga classes are the best I have experienced and I have experienced the whole spectrum!

Her classes are small and intimate so she can be fully aware of how everyone is doing and give help where needed. It doesn’t matter what level you are – beginner or advanced – as Vanessa ensures each person pushes themselves just beyond their comfort zone, but never far enough to cause injury.

If you are looking for a dynamic exercise class that works the body as well as rebalancing it and eases the mind without focusing too much on the spiritual, this is the yoga class for you. If you like to have fun when exercising, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, what are you waiting for? Book your place now!

What I love about Vanessa’s class is that there's always a laugh, it's not totally serious - like at my gym. Here is my testimonial about the benefits of Yoga Junky™.

What I love about Vanessa’s class is that there's always a laugh, it's not totally serious - like at my gym. Here is my testimonial about the benefits of Yoga Junky™.

Poses
After previous unexciting and sometimes disappointing classes taught by other instructors, I fell in love with yoga under Vanessa’s teaching. I always felt I was in safe hands. Her understanding of everyone’s different physique and her ability to explain what you should and shouldn’t be feeling make sure you are able to strike the poses correctly and safely so that you get maximum benefit made all the difference. I get a great workout where I am stronger, more toned, more flexible, and more relaxed than any other workout I’ve tried.

Physical Benefits
For people who think that yoga is for the mild, or just about humming and napping, think again. Practicing yoga has helped me improve physically with balanced strength-building. It has improved my flexibility, joint condition and rid me of back pain. Everyone from athletes to pensioners should practice it for a better physique and quality of life.

Stress Management
Yoga has paid off for me in ways I didn’t expect. The breathing exercises and “relaxing the mind” exercises have helped me both professionally and personally in managing my stress, controlling my responses, and being more self-aware.

QUALIFICATION DETAILS

Vanessa’s background was as a PR Executive for a multinational IT company; her main role was event management. Vanessa took voluntary redundancy in 2000 and decided to use the opportunity to get away from the ‘rat race’ and retrain in a more fulfilling profession, in an area that she felt very passionate about, which was of course yoga. Vanessa has been practicing yoga for nearly 8 years and qualified in 2003, since then her studies have been an on going process and she now has qualifications in Jivamukti Yoga, Anusara Yoga, British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Foundation Course, Advanced Yoga Anatomy, Yogabugs and is attuned in Reiki One, Two, Advanced and has her Reiki Masters. She is currently studying Kundalini Yoga and Advance Yoga Therapy and later this year will commence her BWY Diploma. Through her studies she has developed her own style called Hathalini Yoga™, an exciting fusion of Hatha and Kundalini yoga. Vanessa can also offer yoga as a therapy as either ‘rehab’, gently bringing strength and flexibility back to the body after an injury, or as a preventative measure, she can also offer ‘Postural Analysis and Correction Alignment’, using yoga to bring the body back to balance, and back into alignment. Vanessa’s expertise is also veering into the sports market, this is a huge market which, with thanks to media exposure, a lot of Sports Persons are now realising the benefits of yoga and incorporating yoga into their training programmes, working on the ethos of ‘prehap not rehab’. She has run a workshop for an established cricket team, and for a South London premiership football team (following on from the workshop for the football team she now also runs private sessions for a few of the players). Vanessa is currently in negotiations with two other premiership football teams and two professional rugby teams. Vanessa runs regular yoga classes for multinational blue-chip companies, bringing yoga into the workplace. She teaches at the Amida Health club, David Lloyds and Cannons. As well as this she runs her own ‘open’ classes from her studio here she offers a dynamic and challenging class with an emphasis on having fun.
