About The Instructor
I have been teaching Pilates and Yoga for six years now, having trained and taught internationally: USA, Birmingham (UK), London, Australia and Asia.
My background is in Dance, though I switched from the Performing Arts to the healing Arts. Pilates became more than just a complimentary class: I was fascinated by the way it sped up recovery from serious injuries and medical conditions - such as whiplash, chronic back pain, tendonitis and scoliosis.
I began my Instructor training in Massachusetts by assisting other teachers (2001). Having practised Yoga for longer than Pilates, I was attuned to the mindset, ideas and practice of Yoga, but impressed by the power of pilates to strengthen the mind and body. This is why I had to specialise in both Pilates and Yoga. Although the philosophies contrast (click the links above to find out more), they compliment one another in practice.
In the time I have taught Pilates, I have worked with a variety of specialists: Physiotherapists, Neuro-scientists, GPs, Olympic Trainers and Sports Coaches. I still take GP referalls, which the client has to pay for. I still liase with Doctors, which is really useful if I think the client may have a condition I cannot treat, such as bone cancer.
More mainstream, I have worked in Health Clubs for the past six years: Esporta, Bannatyne's, Virgin Active, LA Fitness, David Lloyd, The Priory and Council run health centres.
Now I have an equipped Pilates Studio in Moseley, or I can travel to you, if you live in Birmingham. I also provide you with a program at the end of each session, so that you can practise the exercises at home.
