The story so far...
Our proudest achievement is the fact that we have a 79% DISTINCTION rate in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams. This rating has been held since we began entering our pupils for singing exams in 2001. But, the story of the singing school goes right back to January, 1994, when Mrs Darley, the school principal, was invited to teach singing by guitarists from Leicester. The bookings for her teaching increased, and by 2001, the school was established and locally renowned.
Over the years, Mrs Darley has watched many people blossom and flourish under her wise experience. Here is a selection:
Asif Kahn travelled a 30 mile return trip every week to be tutored at the school. He was preparing for auditions at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and he was selected by the Academy as a full time student. The school has given some financial assistance for his RADA course.
Miss Ann Wilkes, a pupil of the school, achieved great success at a young age. At the age of 11 years old, she acquired a Distinction in the Grade 5 ABRSM Singing exam. By then, she had already achieved distinctions in all th grade exams she took for singing, Grades 2, 3 and 4. She also won most of the classes she entered in Festivals such as the Mrs Sunderland, the Haydn Wood, the Holmfirth, The Co-Op, the David Clover and the Wharfedale Festivals.
Miss Holly Czolacz started at the school as a 12 year old with little experience of singing and music. By the age of 14, she made up her mind to be a classical singer. She won several high standard classical classes in local Festivals, achieved Distinctions in singing exams and music theory exams and after several years of concerted study with Ms Darley, won a place on the Junior Vocal Programme at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Miss Kelly Stewart is a successful pupil who attends a ‘special school’ in Birmingham because she has cerebral palsy. Born 4 months too early, in 1993, Miss Stewart has learnt to be a high achiever. She achieved a Merit in her singing exam in 2008. She was featured in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner Click Here For Link and sang solo at the singing school concert at Bagden Hall Hotel in November 2008.
All this success comes from a balance of two simple things; hard work and good fun and you, too, can be a part of it.
