Welcome to Brent Snell - Osteopath
BSc Hons Ost

Brent is a graduate of the British School of Osteopathy and a member of the British Osteopathic Association. The lower back problems his own mother suffered for many years led him to study and then become an osteopath as this was the only type of treatment that ever seemed to help her. She would go in for treatment all bent over and would be standing up straight when she came out. Brent has treated patients from all walks of life from new born babies to 102.

Choosing a healthcare provider is one of the most important decisions you can make. You want someone who is caring and accessible. Some one who will take the time to go over all your options and treat you as a complete person not just a group of symptoms. Osteopathic treatment is always tailored to the needs of the individual.

Osteopathy

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of medicine which originated in the United States in the late 1800's. Osteopaths work to restore the musculoskeletal system of the body to a state of balance and harmony. We do not just treat symptoms, but establish and treat the underlying cause of pain. Osteopathy can benefit most types of aches, pains and strains in patients of any age. Osteopaths treat many types of pain and illness from injuries and acute physical problems and strains to more constitutional problems like migraine and digestive problems. We offer care from pregnancy through to childbirth and and specialise in the treatment of the newborn and babies using cranial osteopathy. We treat from birth to old age.

What do osteopaths treat?
  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Tennis Elbow/Golfers Elbow
  • Sports Injuries and Joint Pains
  • Trapped Nerves
  • Ligament sprains
  • Muscle strains
  • Headaches
  • Migraine
  • Postural Problems
  • Whiplash Injuries

Cranial Osteopathy

What is Cranial Osteopathy?

Cranial Osteopathy is a very subtle treatment using very gentle manipulative pressure. It is used to encourage the release of stresses throughout the body. Cranial Osteopathy is often associated with the treatment of babies and young children but it can be very useful in treating adults too. It can be effective in treating a wide range of conditions in people from birth to old age.Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel the very subtle rhythmical shape change that is present in all body tissues. This is known as involuntary motion. Dr William Sutherland first described this in the early 1900's and a series of laboratory tests in the 1970's confirmed its existence. Osteopaths vary their treatment method depending on their own preference and also the presenting problem of each individual patient. A "Cranial Osteopath" uses very gentle treatment technique in practice. In order to practice cranial osteopathy my training has involved post graduate courses with the Sutherland Cranial College.

What can Cranial Osteopathy help?

When an Osteopath employs Cranial techniques the whole individual is treated not just a list of symptoms. Patients with a wide range of problems may benefit from treatment. These include:
  • Headaches, migraine
  • Sinus problems
  • Menstrual Pain and cramps
  • Digestive and irritable bowel problems
  • Stress and general ill health
Osteopathy for children and babies

Osteopathy and Cranial Osteopathy can be an effective treatment approach for all ages. Osteopaths treat children and babies for a variety of common complaints. A baby's skull is made up of a number of bones that can overlap and move to adapt to the force of birth. The birth process is one of the most stressful events of our lives! Enormous forces are generated as the uterus pushes to expel the baby. Many babies cope well with this compression and are contented from the onset of life outside the womb. Sometimes however with a long labour, forceps delivery or a complicated birth the baby's head does not fully recover from the compression and distortion.

How can Cranial Osteopathy help my Child?

In the early years of childhood other problems may occur due to earlier strains which have not resolved.

These problems include
  • Recurrent Infections
  • Sinus Problems
  • Asthma
  • Headaches and growing pains
  • Glue ear
  • Poor concentration and Hyperactivity
