Clinical Hypnotherapy Training

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Research

The LCCH conducts on-going scientific research into hypnosis and allied fields. We are constantly seeking to advance our knowledge of hypnosis in the therapeutic context, with the aim of improving the efficacy of treatments. We have produced highly original and effective methodologies for the treatment of certain conditions that are intractable to ordinary psychotherapy. A two-stage technique for dealing with obsessive compulsive disorders (OCDs) - usually in just two sessions - has evoked much interest amongst therapists of all persuasions. In addition, some of our studies obtaining normative data from the population on the extent of certain psychological problems, have attracted the attention of the media in this country and abroad.

Reports on an extensive survey of travel phobias, conducted by the LCCH, were published in The Times, The Independent on Sunday, and several tabloid newspapers.

External Affiliations

The LCCH does not belong to any 'Complementary Medical Organisation', because we do not believe that hypnotherapy is a form of medicine, be it traditional or alternative/ complementary. However, we are aware of the government's recent record of legislation for specified professions such as osteopathy, and we are actively campaigning for and will support any governmental attempts to legislate for the hypnotherapeutic profession, in its own right. We do of course recognise that counselling skills are an important element in any hypnotherapeutic session and this view is reflected in the LCCH's organisational membership of the British Association of Counselling (BAC).

Funding

The LCCH is approved by local Social Services departments and Health Authorities to offer continuing education and training for their employees, and students should contact their own department for funding. For information on financial assistance to support your learning, please visit www.direct.gov.uk/adultlearning or contact 0800 100 900’. The LCCH also has organisational membership of the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which means that in certain cases course fees may be met in part by organisations subscribing to the EAP.

Fees

Unlike other training colleges, all course fees are payable to the LCCH on a 'pay-as-you-learn' basis. The usual method of payment comprises a modest initial deposit at the time of booking, followed either by balance of the fee during the first weekend of the Certificate Course, or equal proportions of the balance of the fee during the first, fourth and eighth weekends of the Diploma Course. Every effort will be made, however, to meet the needs of students who wish to pay their fees otherwise.

LCCH HYPNOTHERAPY TRAINING ACCREDITATION

Thames Valley University

We are pleased to announce our partnership with Thames Valley University in respect of LCCH courses in Clinical Hypnosis.

TVU has over 140 years experience as a higher education learning provider in both the technical and vocational arena as a college of Higher education, a polytechnic and a University (1992).

From March 2008 the LCCH Certificate course will be validated as a Certificate in Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) in Clinical Hypnosis at Level 6. The LCCH and TVU are offering the CPPD in Clinical Hypnosis as an entry point qualification for a postgraduate programme leading towards a Masters degree in Clinical Hypnosis.

The next step will be a proposed post graduate programme grounded in the content of the existing LCCH Diploma course. Students successfully completing this stage will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Clinical Hypnosis.

A Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Clinical Hypnosis is also planned comprising the content of the existing LCCH Practitioner Diplomas in Clinical Hypnosis and, in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy.

A Masters award will be available as well. This will require successful completion of a Research Methods module and a dissertation relevant to Clinical Hypnosis.

A route which will enable existing students of the LCCH to transfer into appropriate aspects of the PgCert/PgDip/MSc programme will be made available as soon as possible.

LCCH and TVU are exploring opportunities for previous LCCH students to join the PgCert/PgDip/Masters at the relevant place in these post graduate awards. This may require additional study by means of bridging courses(s).

Our collaboration with Thames Valley University is a significant step forward in our commitment to providing the highest quality training for those wishing to study Clinical Hypnosis whilst at the same time providing a higher education qualification that is recognised and trusted at the national and international level by both the established medical professions and the general public alike.
