About Counselling

More and more people are discovering the value of counselling for helping them during difficult times in their lives. Counselling provides a safe place where you can talk confidentially, without the fear of being judged or told what to do.

It is a place where you can explore your thoughts and feelings in depth, in order to understand yourself more fully. It helps you to find your own way through your problems, discovering and using your own inner resources. It enables you to identify goals, work towards them and live life more effectively.

Counselling may be short, medium or longer term, this being dependent on the issues brought and what you might want from therapy. For times when you:

  • have problems that become too difficult to handle

  • have hard decisions to make

  • experience feelings you don't understand

  • are coping with difficult situations

  • are feeling stressed or anxious

  • find relationships difficult

  • feel no-one understands you

  • are unhappy

    or:

  • just need to be heard

About Art Therapy

Art therapy sessions can offer a safe place in which to explore and consider thoughts, feelings and experiences through the use of art materials (drawing, painting, clay work, collage etc).

Many people find that art therapy can provide a means of expressing difficult ideas and feelings which may not be easy to think about or to put into words.

Art Therapy does not require experience or skill in art. The art therapist can help clients to find their own way of using the art materials and work with them to consider and make sense of what has been made and experienced.

About Lisa Mirfin

I qualified as a counsellor at Sheffield Hallam University in 2003 and have since worked in a variety of settings. In 2007 I undertook training in cognitive behavioural therapy at the Michael Carlisle Centre, and use CBT as part of my person centred/integrative therapeutic approach.

I have worked as a bereavement counsellor for the Cavendish Centre for Cancer Care for a number of years, working with issues of loss and grief, and as a group facilitator for Breast Cancer Care.

I am interested in the benefits of group work for dealing with issues of anxiety and depression and have experience of working with small groups in a primary care setting.

Currently I work as a counsellor in community-based projects, primary care and private practice.
