HOW CAN REFLEXOLOGY HELP WITH CANCER CARE?
Reflexology aims to help muscles relax and encourage the body to use its own resources more effectively. As a result, reflexology can help with a wide variety of conditions and disorders relating to cancer and the effects of cancer treatments, including:
coping with stress and anxiety, reducing tension
pain relief
help lift patient’s mood and give them a feeling of well-being
helps to detox the body
helps relieve the effects of medication/chemotherapy such as nausea/vomiting, fatigue and constipation
helps with post-operative pain and recovery
helps boost the immune system
helps restore sleep patterns
Many cancer centres and hospitals in the UK now offer patients Reflexology treatments. If used regularly, Reflexology will enhance any other treatments you are receiving by keeping the circulation stimulated and the lymph system active. You should also experience feelings of vitality and well-being after Reflexology treatment which encourages the healing process throughout the body.
Maternity
Through post graduate training I have specialised in Maternity and Labour.
Reflexology during pregnancy can be extremely beneficial and relaxing for both mum and baby. Reflexology can help with a wide variety of conditions and disorders related to maternity, labour and pre/post natal care, including:
lower back ache/sciatica
Swollen feet (oedema, pre-eclampsia)
Insomnia
Stress relief
Pain relief
Elimination of toxins
Constipation/piles/flatulence
Morning sickness/acid reflex
Fluid retention/lymph drainage
Breathing
Regulating hormones
Anti-natal depression
Production of breast milk
Mastitis
Quicker and less painful deliveries (most of the mums I have offered Reflexology to have had full labour and delivery within 2 hours!)
The most important benefit is relaxation and time for yourself. A relaxed mum will have a relaxed and happy baby.
Reflexology in the workplace
Stress is now such an integral part of business life that one in four workers in the European Union suffer from it.
When the requirements of a job do not match the capabilities, needs or resources of the worker, stress can result. This reduces efficiency and accuracy in the performing of physical tasks, decision making and creativity, and, if untreated, can lead to illness and injury.
Classic physical symptoms of stress are:
tiredness
irritability
loss of appetite
restless sleep
anxiety
depression
How can Reflexology help?
Following stress, injury or illness, vital energy pathways in the body are blocked preventing the body from functioning normally. Reflexology helps unblock these pathways by ridding the body of toxins and improving circulation.
This restores the body’s equilibrium and encourages healing.
In this way, reflexology can treat all the symptoms of stress, as well as the following:
high blood pressure
constipation and IBS
insomnia
asthma
headaches and migraines
sinus problems
depression
poor circulation
pregnancy (and post-natal)
muscular/skeletal pain
post-operative recovery
As reflexology is holistic, treating the whole body rather than individual symptoms, most people benefit from it and is suitable for all ages. Its benefits are recognised by the medical profession, with many GPs now referring patients for reflexology as a complement to conventional medicine.
