What is a Chakra?
The body has seven major (or master) chakras that all vibrate at different frequencies and control different parts of the mind, body and spirit. The word chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel and in some ways they resemble vortexes that draw in energy from the universal life energy field, which is all around us, to the body. This energy is directed through each chakra to the major nerve plexus that is closest, with each charka serving a different a different one. This flow of energy is vital to the correct functioning of the auric and physical bodies. The ayuvedics call this energy prana and within the discipline of Chinese medicine it is referred to as chi.
The chakras from chakra two through six, that is, from the sacral chakra through to the throat chakra appear on both sides of the body. The front chakras are the feeling centres and the back chakras are the will centres. The Base and Crown chakras are single chakras pointing down to the ground and up to the sky respectively.
If a chakra stops functioning or becomes closed, it will prevent the correct flow of energy into the body. This in turn means that the body’s organ corresponding to the dysfunctioning chakra will not be supplied with the necessary energy for normal functioning. If this dysfunction continues normal functioning of the organs associated with that chakra will be disrupted and that area of the body will weaken, diminishing the immune system and eventually leading to disease.
