Studying Reiki

Reiki is a gentle but powerful modality that is of great benefit to both the healer and the person being healed.  If you've always been interested in Reiki and want to know more, or you want to turn your love of Reiki into a business as well as a passion, it is possible to study it. Read on for more information.

What is Reiki?

The word Reiki means universal life energy and it's made up of two Japanese characters, rei meaning universal and ki meaning life force. Reiki is a form of healing that works on the energy field that is within and around the body. Essentially, the practitioner or healer channels the energy from the universe into the person receiving the treatment and as such receives the healing energy themselves as well.  It does not drain the healer in any way at all.  It can be used for physical healing and it can also be used for stress reduction, relaxation and the renewal of energy.  Reiki is gentle and non invasive but powerful.

Learning Reiki

If you love Reiki and want to learn to teach it yourself, it is possible to study Reiki. There are generally three levels in Reiki study - Reiki 1, Reiki 2 and master/teachers level. Reiki 1 is foundation Reiki study and learning it at this level can be helpful for practising Reiki on yourself, family and friends. You will learn such things as the history of Reiki, the principles of Reiki, the energetic anatomy, creating a sacred space, grounding, protecting and cleansing, meditation, reiju and self healing. Reiki 2 is advanced Reiki and during the study of this, you will learn the sacred symbols and their uses, and you will deepen your knowledge and attunement to Reiki. The master/teacher level is the level in which you commit to an ongoing quest to achieve Reiki mastery, making a lifetime commitment.

To be a Reiki practitioner, it is preferred that you have studied Reiki 2 or up to the master/teachers level.

You can study Reiki via a home study course or at a college or with a teacher. What you choose will depend on what best meets your needs. When choosing to study Reiki, you should always ask if the course will allow you to practise Reiki upon completion, what the course covers, and how the course is accredited. You should also how long the course runs for.
