The BOWEN TECHNIQUE is considered by some to be one of the most versatile and effective therapeutic treatments available today.
BOWEN is a neuromuscular technique involving gentle moves over muscles, tensons & ligaments. Fascia - the connective tissue of the body - is also addressed, enabling long term changes to happen.
These moves are made at precise locations on the body, usually over muscles & tendons. There are frequent pauses in between moves, so as to allow the brain to process what adjustments are needed and to carry that message through the body to the relevent area.
Treatments are generally carried out with the client lying on the couch, but can be made with the client seated should lying down not be possible.
The BOWEN TECHNIQUE addresses the whole body so could be considered for any problem you may have experienced.
However it is best known for helping with musculo-skeletal problems such as back pain, shoulder problems, sports injuries, hip restrictions, work-related problems etc.
Whatever your problem, please do make contact to see whether Bowen could help.
BOWEN is a gentle technique which does not involve any forceful manipulation.
This makes it suitable for all ages, from the newly born baby right through into older age.
Gentle daily exercises will also be recommended as necessary.
REIKI is a simple but effective energy balancing system developed in Japan by Mikao Usui (1865-1926).
Originally a system for working on oneself, it is better known in the west as a form of complementary therapy.
Reiki is received clothed, generally lying down on a comfortable treatment couch. It can also be received seated should the recipient be unable to lie down.
The Reiki practitioner will place her hands, non-intrusively, on a sequence of positions on the body, generally starting at the head and moving down the body. Sometimes she will hold her hands just above the body. Energy will flow through her hands, going wherever it is required.
Some practitioners will use a set sequence of moves. I prefer to work intuitively, being guided by the flow of energy according to the needs of the person I am working with.
Clients often report feeling deeply relaxed after receiving Reiki. As the person relaxes, deeper healing can take place at all levels -
Reiki works by realigning the energies of the person, which will create the optimum conditions required for this healing to take place.
In its original form, Reiki was primarily about working on oneself, a system of self-healing and energy work, more closely allied to martial arts. Daily energy exercises were given, along with empowerments and a method for self-treating.
Where appropriate I will suggest energy exercises for you to carry out at home, and sometimes give Reiju empowerments (a form of spiritual blessing or energy sharing) to enable you to work further on yourself in between sessions with me.
Three or four sessions should provide a good initial benefit, particularly in the areas of stress and tension. For longer standing problems more treatments may be required. Indeed, some clients come for regular top-up sessions every 4-6 weeks, sometimes just for the simple pleasure of the relaxation they experience!
About Your Practitioner
My backgound is in classical music, and I studied piano at The Royal Academy of Music in London in the 1980s. Perhpas it was this intense training in the art of listening which led to a deeper listening to other people and, from that, a desire to be a channel for healing.
My journey into the world of complementary therapies begun with Reiki when I lived in the beautiful northern area of Cumbria. I completed my initial training in Reiki in 1997 in Cumbria with Chris Simmonds.
This was followed by second degree Reiki across the border in Scotland in 2006 with Elizabeth Craig.
In 2007 I completed my Reiki training (Master Teacher Level) with Margaret Craig in Glasgow, part of the Reiki Evolution team.
Reiki Evolution seek to integrate the more common 'Western-style' Reiki techniques with more original Japanese techniques. It was this element of authenticity which led me to train with them, returning to the roots of Reiki.
I now offer Celtic Reiki & Reiki Drum.
Celtic Reiki blends energy treatment using vibrational essences with a Celtic philosophy rooted in oneness and nature.
In 2007 I begun training in the Bowen Technique with the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia and qualified in 2008.
Subsequently I have undertaken further training in this wonderful therapy in order to better help the clients who come to me. In July 2012 I qualified in the Advanced Specialised Bowen Procedures 1.
In 2016 I undertook training in Fascia Bowen, based on the work of Howard Plummer, to further enhance my therapeutic skills and practice and to better serve clients.
