Hypnosis is safe and natural
Our minds work on 2 levels, the conscious and the unconscious. We think, make decisions and act with our conscious mind. Our unconscious mind is responsible for our habits and emotions, our memory and the functioning of our body. In the relaxed state of hypnosis we can communicate directly with the unconscious. This is why it is so quick and easy to change the habits of a lifetime using hypnosis.

Hypnosis is natural; we all move in and out of a hypnosis-like state several times a day without recognising it as such. Some examples: reading a book or watching TV; driving a well-known route; the drowsy relaxation when we’re going to sleep or waking up. During such familiar activities our conscious mind can drift off into daydream mode while our subconscious mind directs our body’s activities. This is perfectly normal and safe, and if something happens which needs our attention, our conscious mind instantly takes over.

Hypnosis is safe. You are aware and in control, and can talk as necessary. You cannot be made to do something against your will. Hypnosis amplifies your own willpower and determination. Hypnosis is not sleep but it is a state of deep relaxation, which most people find very pleasant. Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis to enable you to make positive changes in your life.

CBH is very effective
CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) is recognised as a highly effective treatment for a very wide variety of problem thoughts, feelings, behaviours and conditions. Even when a problem has a clear physical cause, a positive psychological state can help to improve it.

The basis of CBT is that our emotions and behaviour are the result of what we believe or assume (about ourselves, others, and the world in general). These core beliefs are largely habitual, automatic, and outside our conscious awareness. It’s mostly what we believe, not the situation itself, which determines how we feel and behave.

CBT enables you to change this; first, by bringing your unconscious negative beliefs into awareness and understanding; then helping you to change these irrational beliefs and replace them with more helpful and flexible alternatives; and supporting you to behave in new and more positive ways.

Hypnosis helps to make this whole process quicker and more effective, as it powerfully encourages change on the unconscious emotional level, and strengthens your determination and motivation. The combination of CBT and hypnosis is CBH (cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy), but each method can also be used separately, if wished.

Reasons to use CBH
Many people are becoming keen to use drug-free natural therapies. Hypnotherapy, CBT and CBH are becoming increasingly popular, as they are often successful when other forms of treatment don’t work, and they can also help to make concurrent medical treatment more effective. Most people find these methods very beneficial as they resolve the causes of your problems rather than just treat the symptoms, enable you to make better use of your own strengths and resources, and help you to achieve your dreams and full potential.

CBH can treat a wide range of psychological, emotional and physical problems. It is excellent for helping you make positive changes, and then giving you the motivation and techniques to enable you to successfully maintain the changes.

About Your Therapist
My initial career was in engineering geology and then in local government. After being impressed by the effectiveness of hypnotherapy to improve sports performance, I trained at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis and obtained a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis, and the Practitioners Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH). I am a full Member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

I work without prejudice – with anyone, from any background. I will enable you to get your most important needs met, to achieve your goals, and to give you the control and choice to become the person you really want to be.

Why I like CBH

It really works – short term therapy, goal focused, straightforward, no jargon.

Achieves maximum change in minimum sessions, so very cost effective.

Deals mainly with the here and now, using a wide variety of well-proven methods.

Helps people become more objective, self reliant and strongly motivated, and so easily maintain their positive changes.

Enables better health on all levels, puts people in touch with their own strengths and resources, and …it’s enjoyable!

"Guy was recommended to me by a close friend who had been suffering with the same problems as I had: anxiety, anger, hurt and fear which were the result of an abusive relationship. Guy offered kindness, understanding and very down to earth advice. The hypnotherapy was absolutely fantastic and I was amazed how quickly effective the exercises were. Before I went to see Guy my life felt like a thick grey fog and I could not see a way forward. Following just four consultations, I have been able to put all the dreadful thoughts and feelings behind me and I feel the happiest I have felt throughout my entire adult life”.

A. S, Norwich

“I felt I had to write to you to let you know how wonderful I am feeling after only three sessions with you. As you know I have been diagnosed with all manner of conditions in the past, including severe depression. After many consultations with various professionals I was finally correctly diagnosed with M.E. I was told that there was little that could be done for my condition and that I would have to change my way of life to suit how I was feeling.

After only three sessions with you, I can honestly say that the biggest change in my life has happened. I am able to lead a completely normal life now, having just returned from a week’s holiday where I was able to enjoy every second to the full. Normally I would have had to spend part of the days sleeping with severe fatigue. I was totally impressed that after the first session I could feel a remarkable difference. I looked forward to the following sessions which improved my condition even further; I feel I can cope with anything now. When I do feel tired I am able to use the techniques you taught me to continue my well being. I cannot thank you enough and I will be recommending you to anyone who might benefit from your skills and obvious talent”.

V.C, Sharrington

"I went to see Guy in great distress after having a Panic attack, but within the first session Guy assured me with what I needed most, security, trust, understanding, loss of fear and anxiety. Guy taught me valuable skills and took me on a journey that I am most pleased to have gone on. It was emotional, left me astonished, filled with security, peacefulness, eye opening moments, truth, trust combined with a lot of happiness. It has turned the most terrifying experience into the most positive outcome".

K.B, Weybourne

“I consulted Guy because at the age of 71yrs I found myself unable to swim without ' floats'. I had been happily swimming for 30 yrs but upon resuming swimming after a few years out of the water I floundered.

It would be perfect if I could say that after 3 sessions with Guy I can now swim. No, not yet. But he has enabled me to face my anxiety and instead of dreading each swimming session I now face it with hope.

More importantly, we identified issues from my past that really had to be confronted and never had been until now. I cannot tell you how much I value his insight and I can honestly say that if it were possible for me to consult with Guy on a regular basis I would do so and have no hesitation in recommending him”.

E.S, Norwich

'Hypnotherapy empowered me to take positive action in my everyday life, and to help tackle fears and negative thoughts'.

“This has been the best money I’ve ever spent. I just wish I’d come to see Guy years ago.”

Mrs J. R, Holt, for weight loss

Just back from my trip to Austria and pleased to report the following:

• crossed bridges even though they rocked with no problem
• rode a cable car to over 2000m with no problem
• had no problems up high in the mountains
• walked along a walkway hanging off the ride of a ravine high above raging water - the metal walkway had a see through metal mesh floor

Many thanks Guy for your help in making my dreams come true

M.W. Norwich (Previously had severe phobia of heights)

I felt I had to share my experience about how a major part of my life was changed in such an incredible way.

Following being badly stung by a wasp on my way to school when I was 6-years-old (I’m now approaching 61-years-old!) – I gradually developed a terrible phobia about all things relating to wasps and finally – when I was 60 – I decided to do something about it.

I researched various options on the net and decided either CBT or Hypnotherapy might help. The one that stood out for me was a person named Guy Thorold who actually offered both CBT and Hypnotherapy or a mixture of both – his advertisement made no false promises and wasn’t vague about costs. An initial appointment is offered (at a very reasonable cost) to meet with him and establish whether he feels he could be of help to whatever the problem is. If this is the case he will then explain how he can help and how many sessions will be needed. Even at this point there is absolutely no obligation.

On meeting Guy, I found him to be extremely professional, very calming and genuinely interested in what my problem was. So I embarked on three hypnotherapy sessions to see if the phobia that has ruined all of my summers for as long as I can remember could be managed. We explored various aspects of my life and Guy’s soothing voice soon had me very relaxed – although aware of our conversation at all times.

The result? Unbelievably I am no longer worried about wasps in the slightest. I have gone from not even being able to say the word “wasp” to actually no longer running out of the room if one came in but am now able to try to help it out of the window.

My treatment has left me not only free from this phobia, but more confident, calm and relaxed and looking forward to a very bright future.

I would not hesitate to recommend Guy to anyone who has a difficulty in life that seems to be out of their control. I cannot thank Guy enough, he has changed my life.
