Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massages are Therapeutic treatments performed with the aim of providing treatment for a specific condition.

Our deep tissue massage therapy focuses on stimulating muscle tissue at a deeper, more fundamental level. This way the process aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of the muscles, together with their tendons and fascia.

Pregnancy Massages are appropriate during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

As an intensely relaxing and healing course of therapy, post-natal massages are the ideal way to help new mothers to strengthen their body and restore their energy levels. Our treatments are highly flexible by nature and can be tailored to suit your individual needs. This means that we can be of invaluable assistance in helping you gain relief from a specific issue, or alternatively we can provide the support and comfort that you need to reduce your stress levels and relax.

Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion and manipulation of very fine needles into various points on the body for pain relief or therapeutic reasons.

Acupuncture originated in and has been practised in the Far-East for over 3000 years, making it the oldest recorded forms of medicine!

There is increasing scientific evidence to support the effects of acupuncture. Various research studies – including those approved by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence – have shown that acupuncture treatment stimulates the production of Endorphins (natural-pain relieving chemicals) in the brain. These enable the body to self-heal and naturally relieve pain.

    Alexander Technique
    Practitioners: William Shephard

When a young child picks up something, they will instinctively bend at the hips, knees and ankles, however as adults we will often fix these joints and tend to bend from the waist. This puts substantial strain on our muscles and joints which is worsened by our sedentary lifestyle, thus leading to generally poor use and activation of our postural muscles.

The Alexander Technique teacher will help you identify your proven pain producing traits and will pro-actively facilitate the coordination, function and mobility of joints and lengthening of the spine, thus reducing spasm and pain.

Very fine, disposable acupuncture needles are placed at strategic points on the face – they increase the local production of Collagen and Elastin, in order to strengthen the structure of the skin.

Cosmetic Acupuncture may be used to soften deep lines whilst eliminating finer lines around eyes, nose and lips. Cosmetic Acupuncture may also help to raise bags under the eyes and lighten the appearance of dark circles whilst firming chin lines.

After treatment, you may find you have a glowing complexion, diminished puffiness around the eyes, and a general lifting of the face.

    Reflexology
Practitioners: Delta Streete and Julie McCollum

he theory behind this non-invasive clinical treatment is based on the reflex points on the feet, hands, and head which are linked to every part of the human body. This means that treatment in one part of the body can substantially improve your health in another part of the body. As such, Reflexology can produce very individual effects in order to restore your well being naturally.

Due to the very personal nature of your treatment, you may encounter effects such as reduced physical tension and improved sleep, whilst many will also see an enhancement in mood, general wellbeing and sense of self. Whilst the improvements are very much individualistic, Reflexology aims to to look after your overall healthcare needs in the face of the wide-ranging stresses of modern life.

The treatment involves the application of agreed upon pressure to various parts of your body, most often the lower legs, feet, hands and/or arms. The experience is very similar to that of having a massage that is working from the inside out.

    Food Intolerance Testing
    Practitioner: Emma Finn

First of all, what is the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance?

With a food allergy, the immune system is involved and the response is usually immediate and dramatic.

Typical symptoms include: coughing, sneezing, vomiting, migraines, watering eyes, rashes, swelling tissue, hives. In severe cases, there can be anaphylactic shock which requires emergency medical intervention. With symptoms involving the digestive system, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, the response can be delayed for hours or even days.

A food intolerance tends to have a slow onset (hours, days or even weeks).

It happens when a person is unable to break down and digest a particular food, often because of a lack of appropriate enzymes. The food therefore passes through the digestive tract unprocessed, or lingers in the gut fermenting and producing excess ‘gas’.

Although food intolerances may involve the immune system, they aren’t life threatening, although over time can prevent the absorption of nutrients, and create inflammation and immunity issues.

    Laura Byron

I have had a lot of chiropody treatments over the years. I went to Fairlee on Queenstown Road for the first time today as it's close to where I live. I had a verruca and wanted a general check up on my feet. Overall the treatment was fine but I didn't feel like I got my moneys worth. After I explained this to the manager he was very helpful and offered me a free follow up treatment. Customer service was good.

    Dominic Bland

7 months ago - I've been a client of the Fairlee for years. I’ve been with them for almost 6 years now – since very soon after they opened the wellbeing centre, and I’d know the owners for years before then at their previous shop.

Fairlee is a superb, family run business. The family are great people who have consistently offered excellent service, a caring and supportive environment.

I go to the Fairlee for many things – Acupuncture, prescription (and non-prescription) medications, vitamins and supplements, flu jabs, the list goes on.

I highly recommend the business, the family, and their circle of practitioners.
