SERVICES

Welcome to YVONNE DAVIES
Naturopathic-Herbalist

Naturopathy is an holistic system of healing; it’s a natural non-invasive therapy where the person is treated rather than the condition. Naturopathy draws from a range of therapies including herbs, supplements, iridology, homeopathy, tissue salts, and diet and lifestyle advice.

Herbal medicine is the use of plant remedies which may help in the treatment of disease and is probably the oldest form of medicine known to man. Herbs work by stimulating the body’s own healing power and the aim is to look at the cause of the problem and take the whole person into accounts to regain balance and harmony in the body.

I use mainly Western and Ayurvedic herbs but also some TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) in my practice. Ayurveda is possibly the oldest health care system going back some 5000 years originating in India. The key to health in Ayurveda lies in understanding your “doshic” constitution which is composed of a mixture of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Ideally, the doshas should exist in a perfectly balanced state for perfect health.

Herbal medicine is suitable for all ages from babies to the elderly.

Treatments

Ayurveda
Ayurvedic is the traditional system of medicine practised in India. It's a complete system of healthcare including detoxification, diet, exercise, herbs and hydrotherapy that all work together to maintain a healthy way of life.

Ayurveda literally means "science of life" and is based on the fundamental belief that everything in the universe is composed of energy. Energy controls every cell, thought, emotion and action. Ayurvedic practitioners treat each person individually to live in a way that is healthy for them thus encouraging energy balance. What is good for one person may not be good for another so it's important to identify the person's constitution (dosha) as well as identifying the causes of imbalance so that they can be treated accordingly.

Everyone has a unique constitution determined by the balance of 3 vital energies in the body known as doshas. The 3 doshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These 3 doshas govern everyone's constitution in varying degrees but for most people one or possibly two doshas are dominant. For good health and wellbeing, the three doshas within a person need to be in balance, however, factors such as diet, lifestyle choices, levels of pollution, the weather, relationships and even the work we do can all cause imbalances in one or more dosha. The 3 doshas are the primary force of function; they describe how the body functions, the systems it uses and what is going wrong. They are responsible for all metabolic and biological functions and maintain equilibrium and health. Imbalance of one or more dosha causes ill-health, and restoring balance is the central theme of the Ayurvedic approach to health.

Vata - a vata person can be unusually tall or short with a thin, slender frame. Their veins and bones are usually quite prominent. They tend to have brown dry or coarse hair and thin lips. They are hyperactive, lively people who are always on the go and change is important to them. Creative and artistic in nature, they love to talk and make friends easily. They are light sleepers and have a dislike of cold and dry environments.

When vata becomes imbalanced, it can result in fearfulness, nervousness and anxiety. The person can suffer from insomnia, constipation, dry skin and lips; their digestion becomes irregular, they find it hard to concentrate and finish projects.

Pitta - a pitta person is of medium build and strength and moderate weight. Their skin is warm and ruddy, can be freckled and is often sensitive. Their hair is fine and tends towards early greying and balding. They are ambitious, determined and confident with a tendency towards perfectionism. Pitta people tend to be intolerant to heat and gravitate towards cooler environments.

When pitta becomes imbalanced it can cause the person to become angry, irritable and impatient; they get heated and feel hot and thirsty. Their skin becomes inflamed and erupts in rashes or acne and they get infections easily. They can be obsessive and critical about anything.

Kapha - kapha people have stout, stocky frames with well-developed physiques. They have a tendency towards being overweight. Their hair is thick, wavy and lustrous and they have big eyes and large smooth lips. They are calm, contented, easy-going, steady and supportive. They are heavy sleepers and have a dislike of damp and cold environments.

When kapha becomes imbalanced it can cause the person to put on weight, become unmotivated, lethargic and lazy. They can become clingy and tend to hold on to things. Their digestion is slow leaving them feeling heavy and sleepy after eating.

Iridology
Iridology is the examination and analysis of the iris in trying to determine factors that may be important in the prevention and treatment of disease. Ancient Egyptian texts refer to iris markings and since the early days of iridology it was thought that the irides of the human eye could give accurate information about the general state of health of the body.

Iridologists learn to read and analyse the meanings of patterns, colours, markings and signs that are in the iris and how they relate to individual constitutions. It is a safe non-invasive therapy, which can help clients understand about their strengths and weaknesses and what is needed for their long-term health and total well-being. Iridology does not diagnose disease, rather it highlights genetic strengths and weaknesses, and the efficiency of the eliminative organs.

I use iridology as a diagnostic tool to help identify which foods and lifestyle practices are best for the client's particular iris constitution.

There are 3 main constitutional types depending on the colour of the iris:

Lymphatic: includes blue and grey eyes. These types have re-active immune system
Hematogenic: includes all brown eyes.
Mixed Biliary: includes green and hazel eyes.

<Consultations

Your first Naturopathy/Herbal consultation will take approximately an hour and a half and each follow-up visit will last thirty minutes. I will take a full case history asking about the conditions you are suffering from, your medical history, your family medical history and your diet and lifestyle. I will then make recommendations on any lifestyle changes, diet, supplements and may provide a herbal remedy. Herbal remedies can come in the form of teas, tinctures, powders or creams.

An iridology-only consultation lasts one hour. I'll take a picture of your eyes on a special camera then look at the pictures on a laptop. I'll discuss the findings with you and will email you a full report, with pictures of your eyes, within a few days of your consultation.
