What Is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession concerned with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment to restore the physical function and performance of the body. It is a distinct form of care which can be performed both in isolation or in conjunction with other types of medical management for example surgery.

Physiotherapy deals with a wide range of injuries and disease processes and other conditions which include:

  • Sports Injuries
  • Back and neck pain
  • Postural Problems
  • Occupational Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Stroke Rehabilitation
  • Neurological Conditions
  • Impaired Mobility
  • Post Surgical Rehabilitation

How Can Physio Help Me?

Physiotherapy can help individuals by identifying the problem area and treating this directly. Physiotherapists treat a wide variety of injuries and problems using many different techniques. In many cases, the causes of pain and dysfunction are obvious, but sometimes things are not so black and white, especially when symptoms are inconsistent or difficult to describe.

Physiotherapists can perform a wide range of tests to help locate the source of the problem and implement the appropriate treatment and rehabilitation strategy. They are not only interested in the problem, but also any contributing factors. Identifying factors such as poor posture, improper techniques, muscle imbalances, deficient core stability or poor work practices are examples. Correcting these factors will reduce the risk of the same thing happening again in the future.

Our friendly team are highly qualified and professional

Andy Binning

Andy graduated from Queens College in 1990 with a BSc in Physiotherapy Studies. His special interest in physiotherapy was sports injuries, which led him into the world of football. Andy has been physiotherapist to several football clubs, including Alloa Athletic FC, East Stirling FC and St Mirren FC. In 1998 he opened Paisley Physiotherapy Centre, which has gone from strength to strength resulting in the highly acclaimed clinic, which we are running today. Andy has since gone on to become a member of the AACP following a qualification in acupuncture and more recently achieved a post graduate diploma in Manipulative therapy.

Lesley Binning

Lesley graduated from Queens College in 1991 with a BSc in Physiotherapy Studies. Lesley started off her career working in Law Hospital before moving to Red Deer day hospital where she began specialising in neurological conditions. In 2002, she became part of the specialist team in Renfrewshire which served people with physical disabilities. 8 years later, Lesley left the NHS and decided to solely work in the clinic, where she specialies in neurological conditions like; Stoke, MS, Head injuries and Parkinson’s disease. Lesley also delivers a domiciliary service for the clinic, providing home visits for patients unable to attend the clinic.

Gemma Black

Gemma graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2014 with a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy. This makes her our youngest physio, bringing with her a fresh approach to new techniques and research emerging in Physiotherapy.

Following her graduation, Gemma joined our team and settled in very quickly. She went on to complete a course in acupuncture, and in soft tissue techniques for musculoskeletal injuries. More recently Gemma received a qualification in Pilates, which allows her to work 1-1 with patients. These sessions can be useful for patients recovering from an episode of low back pain, patients who have poor posture, or simply for anyone wishing to strengthen their core.

Louise joined our team at the beginning of 2014, and has brought passion and enthusiasm to the clinic. Louise began her career by attaining a BSc Honors degree in Physiology and Sports Science from the University of Glasgow, which she is able to use in everyday practice today.

Following this, Louise went on to graduate with a masters degree in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University. In addition, Louise has since gained a diploma in Sports Massage and received her acupuncture and Pilates qualifications.

I have had excellent treatment from Andy and his team over the last few years. A very knowledgeable and professional team who give clear explanations of your injury and the treatment to be provided. I have attended for a sternoclavicular joint issue and ruptured adductor muscle; on both occasions I was returned to full fitness.

Andy and his team are absolute stars! Unfortunately I have had to receive treatment many times for sports injuries during my career, but no-one has ever helped me back to fitness as well as this team. Highest recommendations!

These physiotherapists have only done a weekend course in acupuncture so can't be experts. Beware!
Response from the ownera year ago
This is factually inaccurate. To be a member of the AACP we have to undertake 80 hours of training and rigorously maintain our CPD. I'm not sure what has motivated you to leave a review, given that you're not a client of ours and we'd be grateful if you could delete your review. Thanks in advance.
