Body Massage (also referred to as Swedish Massage) has its roots in Eastern Medicine and uses oil or talc. The massage routine covers the full body using the main massage techniques. This is the UK’s standard full body massage used throughout the industry and it also forms the basis for all advanced massage courses such as Sports Massage, Hot Stones Massage etc. It is particularly recognised for its ability to provide deep tissue and muscle relaxation and assist with joint mobility. Practitioners use a combination of gentle flowing massage along with friction, kneading, percussion and stimulation of pressure points, as well as stretching.

The aim of Body Massage is for the client to be able to move freely and without pain. As a therapist you will observe your clients posture and balance and will teach them stretching exercises to help maintain mobility. In addition to mobility and pain reduction, this can be very helpful for stress reduction, digestive problems including irritable bowel syndrome and constipation, as well as asthma, and bronchitis.

Units within this qualification have been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the qualification is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) as well as being approved and supported by Skills for Health (the sector skills council for health).

Infant Massage is a parent tradition within many ancient cultures that has been re-discovered and adapted to the western world. It is one of the most natural and pleasant methods of providing this early nurturing contact and is a great way to bond with baby. If infants are nurtured and cared for, as adults they are assets to the community and are contributing to society through a positive work ethic. This benefits their family, school and the community.

Research into this field is finding that massage may promote better sleeping, relieve colic, and perhaps even enhance an infant’s immune system, motor skills, and intellectual development. In the USA, the research carried out by The University of Miami School of Medicine confirms the importance of a secure environment and nurturing touch in the healthy growth, development and maturation of children. Numerous other studies have also shown the many developmental benefits of positive contact as part of baby’s early life.

VTCT L3 Diploma Aromatherapy Massage
7 Day Course + 3 hr exam

The VTCT L3 Diploma in Aromatherapy is currently accepted for full membership of the Association of Aromatherapists and all the member organisations. It also allows graduates to to join the Complemetary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). Units within this qualification have been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the qualification is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) as well as being approved and supported by Skills for Health (the sector skills council for health).

Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy but using highly concentrated plant oils, called essential oils which are added to carrier massage oils or lotions. Aromatherapy has a history dating back thousands of years and enhances well-being and stimulates and harmonises a healthy physical, mental and emotional state. The nostrils are attached to a part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system controls emotions and influences the nervous system and hormones. When you inhale essential oil molecules, messages are transmitted to the limbic system and affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system. Essential oils are also believed to be absorbed through the skin. Each essential oil has different healing properties, for example some calm while others energize.

Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to conditions involving stress or improving emotionally-related conditions. After the consultation a typical Aromatherapy massage will take 60 mins. The client will lie on a massage couch/table wearing their underwear covered by a towel & blanket. The therapist will uncover only the part of the body they are working on to maintain dignity at all times, one or more essential oils will then be selected based on what the client likes or requires, these are ‘blended’ with the carrier massage oil or lotion to be used for the massage. After the massage, the massage therapist may suggest a blend to be used at home in between massage treatments.
