Initial Consultations

During the confidential consultation which lasts about 10 minutes, you will be asked about your reason for seeking treatment and a brief medical history will be taken.

An assessment will be made before creating an individual treatment plan, to check there are no contra-indications. Then once you give consent treatment can begin.

Please bear in mind that acute or chronic conditions may require a series of treatments to gain maximum benefit.

Reflexology

Reflexology is believed to have been practiced by the ancient Egyptians, also by the American Indians and it is very similar to Chinese acupressure.

Ill health often occurs when our biological systems are impaired and there is a build-up of toxins causing blockages of energy. Organs and parts of the body are represented on specific reflex points on the feet.

Reflexology aims to balance all the systems of the body by stimulating these reflexes, detecting and releasing blocked energy pathways so that the body restores its natural equilibrium. It is deeply relaxing and very useful in treating stress and improving general health and well-being.

Swedish Massage

This therapeutic massage sets out to stretch and loosen skeletal muscle and connective tissue. By reducing muscle tension and breaking up scar tissue, there can be a noticeable difference in muscle function and relief from chronic pain. Improved condition of muscles and joints, ligaments and tendons can improve flexibility, posture and movement, while lessening the likelihood of injury or strain.

Blood circulation is improved to bring an enriched supply of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, as well as helping drain away lymph (metabolic waste products resulting from cellular activity). Healthier cells allow the body to work more efficiently and to heal itself quicker. Massage assists in forming T-cells which are important in the immune system.

It also stimulates the release of natural painkillers from the brain called endorphins and can influence how we interpret sensations of pain by its effect on parts of the nervous system.

Since excessive stress is such a commonly experienced phenomenon these days, it’s good to know that Swedish massage therapy can relax the nervous system and reduce anxiety.

Massage generates that ‘feel-good’ factor making us more able to cope with life’s challenges.

Depending on which techniques are used, Swedish massage can be pleasantly relaxing or extremely invigorating. Athletes often require their muscles to be primed and their energy flows balanced before an event.

Remedial Massage

This is a combination of Swedish massage and other soft tissue manipulative techniques such as moblisations, myofascial release, trigger point therapy. It can be used to benefit a variety of conditions ranging from arthritis, repetitive strain injury, back and neck pain, headaches, torn or pulled muscles.

Sports Massage

Physical activity and all kinds of sport can put strain on the body by using particular muscle groups, leading to impaired performance and injury.

Most athletes and people doing regular physical exercise are aware of the benefits of integrating regular massage into their overall health regime.

The aim of the massage therapist is to identify the needs of each individual, according to the specific sport, and thereby customize treatment for acute or chronic conditions as well as ongoing maintenance.

Sports massage therapy is given when people in sporting circles suffer painful conditions, injury to soft tissues, or require assistance to achieve peak condition. This often requires the therapist to work at a deeper level to treat injuries to muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments.

Sports massage therapy can help by:
  • Speeding up recovery time from injuries
  • Improving blood circulation to the muscles bringing essential nutrients
  • Relieves tightness and pain by relaxing and lengthening muscles
  • Breaking down scar tissue from previous injuries
  • Eliminating metabolic waste (lactic acid)
  • Improving mobility and muscle flexibility
  • Promoting restful sleep and relaxation to aid healing
