Welcome to The New You

About Me

Following 4 hard, but very rewarding years of studying Diet and Nutrition, together with anatomy, physiology and pathology, I qualified with Distinction as a Nutritionist from BCNH, the British College of Nutrition & Health, and am a member of BANT the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy and a registered practitioner for the NTC the Nutritional Therapy Council and CNHC the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council. I also attend post-graduate seminars in order that my knowledge is continually updated.

When I left school and started work I gave little thought to nutrition. I always enjoyed my food but it was certainly not a passion and I did not stop to think what was being added to my food in order to keep that 'perfect' apple the right shape, texture and colour, and still edible with its appearance unchanged, after many weeks of living in my fridge! In 2000 I became very seriously ill and had to undergo two major operations within 6 months of each other, with a 3 month recovery period following each, it was only then that I became interested in alternative therapies, and in 2001 after studying for 11/2 years, I qualified as a Reflexologist.

My journey in nutrition also started in 2001, when on recommendation I had an appointment with a Nutritionist and following her advice changed my diet, and was truly amazed what eating the right foods could do, it put me on the road to good health. This inspired me so much that I wanted to learn more and I wanted to help others in the way I had been helped. I believe in the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle, and the healing power of health-promoting unadulterated, organically grown food, free from chemicals and toxins, and organically reared livestock, where the meat, milk and eggs are free from hormones and antibiotics, and there is a very high standard of animal welfare. I do eat organically at home, and wherever possible when away from home. I really do believe that an organic diet has the potential to lower the incidence of cancer, coronary heart disease, obesity, allergies and hyperactivity in children, what you eat can change your life, so let me help change yours, it is never too late to start!

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy is an holistic therapy where the body is treated as a whole, diet can have a dramatic influence on the body and is a natural approach to health and wellbeing for everyone.
What Nutritional Therapy is not!
Nutritional therapy is not a magic wand, nor is it a 'quick fix', although some benefits, for example, from balancing blood sugar, will be felt quite quickly, but responsibility and dedication are required from you the client, so that you may feel the benefits. It is no good mopping up the water that is overflowing from a sink if the taps have not been turned off first!

The body is an amazing, wonderful complex organ, which has the ability to self heal, even with the abuse from poor nutrition, environmental toxins in our food and in the atmosphere, alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking and lack of exercise. It is often many years of withstanding all or some of these things before the body starts to show any signs of illness. The body is like a finely tuned engine of a car, with some of the parts of that engine working independently and some working in unison, in order for the car to go, but for any of those parts to work independently or in unison they need fuel, and if a lower grade fuel is put into the engine, it would go but not as well as if it is filled with premium grade fuel. However, if the completely wrong type of fuel is put into the engine, it may run for a short while, but will soon stop, exactly as if diesel were put into a petrol engine or visa versa. The food and drink that we consume is our fuel, containing vitamins, minerals, enzymes, water, amino acids (building blocks of protein), carbohydrates and fats, collectively known as nutrients. These nutrients, although differing in their form and required amounts, are involved in all bodily processes that keep our body going, and a deficiency of these nutrients can cause one part of the body to start malfunctioning, thereby placing pressure on other parts of the body, and eventually causing the whole body to break down, just like the 'domino effect'. It is therefore essential that we eat a healthy diet, thereby strengthening the immune system, improving our health status and sustain the body's harmonious balance in the way that nature intended, and allowing our body to heal and regenerate itself, what you eat can change your life.

The Consultation

The consultation will always be in private and totally confidential. I work with my clients to address their health problems and concerns.

I would always welcome a family member to accompany a client, but only at the client’s request. However, a minor under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian present at every consultation.

First Consultation: the time allowed will be 11/2 hours. I will discuss with the client, from the completed in depth health questionnaire their case history, which includes current state of health, diet and lifestyle.

Follow Up Consultations: the time allowed will be 30 minutes to 1 hour. I will review progress in diet, lifestyle and supplement programme, together with discussing the results of any functional tests (should either supplements or tests be applicable), subsequently recommending any necessary changes, at a pace with which the client feels comfortable and which realistically 'fits into' their lifestyle.

I have Practicing Privileges at the Chelsfield Park Hospital and The Sloane Hospital in Kent, they are part of the BMI group of hospitals, please see the Links page of my website www.thenewyou.me.uk for their details.

I am also available if required, for 'Nutrition Walks' with clients for practical advice on choosing healthy produce in their local supermarket, at home in the kitchen on preparing 'healthy' meals and children's lunch boxes, or on food already stored in kitchen cupboards.

The Nutritional Programme
Everyone is very much an individual, but it is usual for a nutritional programme to be supervised for 1 year, with an average of 4 appointments within that year or as necessary, but acceptable to the client.

Dietary Supplements
Are not a substitute for healthy eating, diet should always come first, however supplements may enhance a nutritional programme and subsequently may be recommended, but these would be optional.

Functional Laboratory
Tests Specific functional tests may be recommended during a client's nutritional programme, for example; Food Intolerance and Allergies, Comprehensive Stool Analysis, Hormone levels, Liver Function and Hair Mineral Analysis. These are optional, but are sometimes helpful in giving a clearer picture of what is happening in the body, and also to monitor a client's progress.

Fees
I charge for my time and professional expertise, please call on either of the telephone numbers given below or by email for consultation fees.
