Biography

Darren Chandler graduated from the British School of Osteopathy after completing the four year full time degree course, where he obtained a B.Ost (Hons). Darren was also awarded the highly coveted and sought after Student of the Year Award by HRH Princess Anne, in 2002.

He is a full member of the British Osteopathic Association (BOA) and is a state-registered osteopath with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) a body concerned with the continued professional development of practitioners.

Whilst continuing to work alongside noted Osteopaths & GPs. Darren opened Bow Osteopathy in the heart of the vibrant, up and coming East End. The goal is to continue to take his approach to Osteopathy to a new level of excellence in holistic health care; striving to exceed each individual’s expectations.

Darren uses his hands to adjust the body. The ultimate aim is to prevent illness and disease, stimulating the body’s function to heal. He specialises in spinal, sports and work related injuries. His knowledge and experience of proactively working with patients of all ages and conditions has been a strong foundation of his ongoing success.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a primary healthcare system, complementary to other medical practices. It is suitable for almost anyone and can contribute to healing and alleviating an enormous range of conditions.

Osteopathy was founded by the American doctor Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. Dr Still was the first physician to realise fully the profound relationship between the structural balance and integrity of the body and the way in which it functions.

Osteopaths use their hands to diagnose faults within the body's structure, particularly the spine and associated muscles, ligaments and nerves which may be causing pain and restricting everyday activity. Most of us think of osteopathy for a bad back. It is certainly very effective for musculoskeletal problems generally, but can also be used to treat a wide range of problems, such as digestive, respiratory and emotional problems.

Its main strength lies in the unique way the patient is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural standpoint and the manual methods of treatment applied to suit the needs of the individual patient.

Osteopaths use their hands both to investigate the underlying causes of pain and to carry out treatment using a variety of manipulative techniques. These may include muscle stretching and deep tissue massage, rhythmic joint movements, or high velocity thrust techniques to improve the range of movement of a joint. Gentle releasing techniques are often used, particularly when treating babies, children or elderly patients.

Testimonials

"For the last ten years I have suffered with intermittent lower back pain. I have visited many medical practitioners with no permanent solution. After my initial examination I was swiftly referred for a CT scan, which showed two small fractures in my lower back, most probably due to a congenital weakness. Darren’s positive approach through treatment and common sense advice coupled with structured exercise programmes that heal and build strength, have given me confidence to live a more active life without fear of further injury."
Richard D’lima (Housing Strategy Manager)

“Been touring around Europe and it's always nice to come home and have the stress lifted from my neck and shoulders. The teams caring approach at Bow has always managed to get me back on track.”

Eylem Kizil (Singer Song Writer and Model)

"On the recommendation of a friend, I took advice from the team at the chandler clinic for a niggling lower back injury. I was assessed by Darren and reassured I needed to see Terry Beach resident sports massage therapist. I feel the treatment I have received is second to none. I have regular sports massages from Terry and I would say he’s up there with the best. I’ve had plenty of experience with different therapists and these guys are on the money.”

Jermain Defoe (Striker for Tottenham and England)

“If you ever feel the need for a massage, then look no further. Terry Beach resident massage therapist at the Chandler Clinic and Spine Plus is the best there is”. Better than a cocktail.

JP (Lawyer)

"I have tried many different therapies in the past, some with limited success, I can honestly say that my osteopathic and sports massage treatment at the Bow clinic has transformed my life. I no longer find myself lying on the floor to get relief from a desperately painful neck, I am deeply grateful."

Meg Matthews (TV Presenter & interior designer)

“Bow Osteopathy cured my elbow pain – I’m back playing golf.”

Dennis Moss (Songwriter)

“I’ve suffered on and off with lower back pain and eventually was diagnosed with a “Slipped Disc”. Having had surgery, post operative exercise therapy has given me the confidence to return to a normal lifestyle. These guys have a great pool of knowledge, always happy to recommend them. “

Will King (Director/Founder King of Shaves)

"Before coming to the Chandler Clinic for treatment, I had suffered with intermittent leg pain for more than six months. After four treatments the pain has completely gone. The teams approach to the problem, including therapy, explanations and footwear advice has got my training routine back on track."

George Toohey (Personal Trainer)

"Having suffered for 5 years with neck and shoulder pain, and after trying various treatments with no success enough was enough! The Chandler Clinic was recommended to me so I thought I’d give it a try. After two treatments consisting of soft tissue and medical acupuncture I'm now pain free and more importantly understand how to cope with my neck problem through gentle exercise and taking my postural care seriously"
