Types of Treatment:
The world health organisation particularly recommends Acupuncture for the following:
- Infections e.g. colds, flu, bronchitis
- Muscular-skeletal and neurological – e.g. arthritis, neuralgia, sciatica, back pain, tendonitis, stiff neck
- Bell’s palsy, headache, stroke, polio, sprains, cerebral palsy.
- Mental – emotional e.g. anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia.
- Skin problems – e.g. – eczema, acne.
- Internal – e.g. asthma, ulcers, colitis, indigestion, haemorrhoids, constipation, diarrhoea, diabetes, high blood pressure. Ear-eyes-nose throat – e.g deafness, earaches, tinnitus, dizziness, sore throat, hay fever, poor eyesight, sinus infections.
- Genito-urinary and reproductive – e.g. impotence, infertility, PMT, irregular or painful periods, morning sickness.
For some conditions western medical treatment should be your first choice and I can advise you on this.
Traditional acupuncture enables the body, mind and spirit to heal itself as far as nature will allow. In Chinese medicine, any illness or symptom, either physical, mental or of the spirit, is associated with an imbalance of the person’s vital life energy, or Qi. When the body sends out distress signals in the form of symptoms it is a sign that there is an imbalance of Qi, which needs to be rebalanced to restore health. The principle of traditional acupuncture is important because it means the underlying cause of the disease is being dealt with rather than the symptoms merely being suppressed only to reappear in the future. As well as dealing with the patient’s condition it would be expected that the individual might feel better in a general way. Acupuncture is holistic and treats everyone as an individual this therefore promotes an improved quality of life, energy and general well being.
Who comes for Acupuncture treatment?
A lot of people come for Acupuncture as their first choice of treatment and some find it extremely beneficial where other forms of treatment have been unsuccessful. Since deterioration in the balance of energy always precedes the appearance of a symptom, traditional acupuncture can also be used as a preventative treatment aimed at maintaining health on all levels. As well as seeking help for physical problems, many people come with stress related disorders and the effects of mental and emotional conflict in their lives.
Diagnosis and treatment
Your first appointment will include a traditional diagnosis. This may take up to 1 ½ hours because you will be asked a lot of questions. This is important as it takes into account such things as medical and family history, lifestyle and present general condition.
Responses to treatment
Everyone is different and the response to the treatment varies. Often the first thing to improve is general well being and health and then improvement in the main complaint will follow. However you may notice an improvement in the main complaint straight away.
Number and frequency of treatments
To start with you will need treatment once a week and as soon as there is improvement your treatments can be spaced out. Some people only need a few treatments and others require extensive treatments.

A straightforward, no nonsense remedial therapy that is non-intrusive, gentle and very effective.
A Bowen Technique treatment affects the body in ways that promote healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. The experience of the treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing and it is these features, which make the Bowen Technique so unique. How does it work?
The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to make rolling type moves which aim to disturb the muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body.
Hopi Ear Candles
Some conditions it can help are:
- Tinnitus, compacted ear wax and glue ear
- Sore throats and hay fever
- Headache and migraine
- Sinusitis and rhinitis
- Catarrh and asthma
- Menier’s Disease
Hopi ear candles are used when there is an over-production of earwax. Candles (large straws) are used to clear the ears of wax. The treatment is an effective method of helping with sinus problems, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and difficulties with balance. It is very effective on young children with “glue ear”. It has in some cases, taken away the need for grommet surgery.
Hopi Ear Candles work by vaporising their ingredients once lit, causing convectional air flow towards the first chamber of the ear. By placing the candle in the ear this forms a seal and creates a mild suction which lets the vapours gently massage the eardrum and auditory canal, this enables wax and other impurities to be drawn out of the ear.
"I first went to see Rose Severs, a desperate man. My 25 year marriage with two children in tatters. I had contracted Bells Palsy, my mind, body and soul was in chaos. I am a professional sound engineer and unable to work as the Bells Palsy had impeded my hearing, frankly I was close to suicide. My GP, knowing my circumstances, was not hopeful of a speedy recovery. After starting Acupuncture, the Bells Palsy was under control in less than a month and treatment has become my major support in rebuilding my life. My wife and children are well and we all get along amicably. I can work and smile and am facing my problems with new conviction."
"I was experiencing pins and needles in both legs and had a problem with my back for at least a year which after a MRI brain scan, it was found that I had Multiple Sclerosis. This was actually diagnosed in September 2005. I was terrified to say the least, as Multiple Sclerosis is an ‘incurable’ degenerative disorder of the nervous system. I was advised to try Acupuncture and started seeing Rose Severs on a weekly basis having Acupuncture and Bowen Therapy. Rose has not only helped me to adopt a more positive approach to life, but has helped me to stay in remission since being diagnosed. I regards Rose as my Angel. I would fully recommend treatment to anybody suffering with Multiple Sclerosis or any other disorder."
Sleeping, Digestion, PMT and Pregnancy!
"I first approached Acupuncture whilst I was experiencing a very stressful period during my working career. I looked at it as an alternative to western medicine, which I was being offered at the time and did not wish to pursue. Within a short period of time, I noticed a great change in me as a person. I not only felt calmer, but also much more settled as a person than I had felt in ages. I felt as if the Acupuncture was providing me with a higher standard of general health, helping me in areas such as sleeping, digestion and PMT. Most importantly I felt positive about everything. Acupuncture is now an integral part of my health and well-being and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to improve their general health and well being."
