SERVICES
What Is Massage?

Massage is a holistic therapy which treats body, mind and spirit through the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues. It is commonly associated with relaxation and pampering but massage has so much more to offer!

For many people, massage means simply relaxation and pampering but the manipulation of the body's soft tissues produces many more therapeutic benefits.

By boosting the circulation, massage helps to bring vital oxygen and nutrients to the body's organs and tissues. It encourages drainage of waste products from the body thus eliminating toxins and speeding up recovery from injury.

Massage relaxes tension in muscles improving health, suppleness and tone and easing discomfort. It can also help to boost the immune system, relieve tension headaches, calm the digestive system, improve posture and relieve the pain of repetitive strain injuries.

On an emotional level, massage helps to relieve stress and promotes a feeling of general well-being leading to a more positive outlook and increased confidence.

Which treatment?

Relaxation Massage treatments are based on Swedish Massage techniques which involve a variety of strokes using gentle pressure to warm and relax the muscles. These treatments will promote relaxation, relieve minor muscle aches and pains and provide a general sense of well-being.

Remedial & Sports Massage treatments use Swedish massage techniques to warm the muscles in preparation for deeper treatment. The deep tissue techniques will vary according to the problem being treated but the intention is always to reduce pain, lengthen shortened tissue, tone weakened muscles, break down scar tissue and restore or improve range of movement. The treatment is tailor-made to your requirements.

Indian Head Massage differs in that no oils are used and the treatment is performed through clothing. It treats shoulders, neck, face and scalp and is not only incredibly relaxing but has also proved effective in treating headaches and migraines and releasing tension in the shoulders.

All of the treatments on offer will, to varying degrees, boost the circulation, improve the elimination of waste products such as lactic acid, boost the immune system, calm the digestive system, improve posture, relieve pain and tension in tight muscles, relieve stress and improve health, suppleness and tone in the muscles treated.

What To Expect

Before any treatment can be given, a brief medical history must be taken. If you are attending for a relaxation treatment, this will take just a couple of minutes at the beginning of the session.

However, if you are having a remedial or sports massage treatment this process will take longer as I will conduct a more in-depth consultation including a comparison assessment between the injured and uninjured area. You may like to book in for a separate 20mins consultation appointment, otherwise please make sure you book an hour-long session for your first visit.

The therapy room is kept at a comfortable temperature and you will only be required to undress as far as your underwear. I will then help you onto the massage couch and the areas not being worked on will be covered to keep you warm and relaxed throughout your treatment.

I encourage feedback both during and after the session to ensure you receive the best massage for you.

With the exception of Indian Head Massage treatments, all massage is performed using oils. I use Tui Balmes & Waxes which are made from organic beeswax and natural ingredients and are free from preservatives, emulsifiers, colouring agents, stabilisers, parabins, GM ingredients or petrochemicals. The products and ingredients have not been tested on animals.

A selection of Tui Balme products are available for purchase.

QUALIFICATION DETAILS

Samantha Colverd rmt, dihm, ctha

I am a fully qualified Remedial & Sports Massage Therapist, having completed 18 months of training. Once qualified, I built up a successful practice within a small rural community before moving to a busy chiropractic clinic where I treated patients with a diverse range of musculo-skeletal ailments referred by the chiropractors for remedial soft tissue treatment.

I have run On The Bench for over 2 years and have recently added Hot Stone Massage and Massage for Pregnancy to my list of qualifications.

I am a member of the Complementary Therapists Association (CthA) and as such I am required to fulfil a specific number of hours of continuing professional development each year. This means that the skills and treatments available will increase regularly!
