Baby Massage
What is it?
Baby or infant massage is the application of massage strokes to babies/infants, generally by the parents, guardians, carers or relatives of the child. I will demonstrate the strokes, techniques and routine, but you will massage your baby. Baby massage can help to provide a smooth transition from the womb to the outside world and is particularly beneficial to premature babies. It is a popular option for coping with colic, irritability, restlessness and sleeplessness.

Massage can be started from baby’s six week check up when your baby is cleared by the medical services. It is advisable to learn baby massage skills before your baby is crawling as he/she is likely to be more receptive. Baby massage can even be learned during pregnancy, using a baby doll, so that you can commence massage following the birth.

What are the benefits?
Baby massage can be a good thing for both parent and child because:
  • It’s a good bonding experience – a good way for you and your baby to get to know each other and to spend a bit of quality time together.
  • Studies have suggested that physical contact is good for babies, improving their breathing, circulation, digestion and growth.
  • It provides a good source of sensory and muscle stimulation, which is beneficial to all babies, but may be particularly good for babies with special needs.
  • It relaxes both parent and child.
  • It’s fun for both of you.

Lessons are conducted in small groups in the home setting where training can be tailored to each individual’s needs. By learning with a trained expert you can feel comfortable that you are getting the massage strokes and pressure right as baby massage is different from adult massage and it is important to get the technique correct.
A series of 4 weekly lessons is usually required for a small group. For a one-to-one session (i.e. the teacher plus one infant and two parents/carers) 3 lessons is often sufficient.
Treatments and Prices
  • Series of 4 one hour lessons – £140 (for up to 4 infants and parents/carers)
  • Series of 3 one hour lessons – £100 (for one infant plus parents/carers only)

You will be asked to remove most of your clothing but you will be covered with towels. Unscented oils will be used.

What are the benefits?
Massage holds a host of physical, mental and psychological benefits including:

Reflexology
What is it?

The basic idea behind reflexology is that there are points on our feet, hands and ears that are connected by energy channels to organs and the rest of our body. Sometimes these channels become blocked which can lead to discomfort and poor health.
By massaging these reflex points on your feet, I believe your whole body can become reenergized. Relaxation results in improved blood and lymph flow through your body with a corresponding improvement in your general overall health.
Reflexology does not claim to be a "cure all" but many different disorders have been successfully treated using this non-invasive method. Migraines, sinus problems, hormonal imbalances, digestive problems, circulatory problems, back problems, tension and stress have all responded positively in people who have experienced this therapy.
The reflexology session will work on the reflexes of the feet and lower legs. You will be asked to remove footwear and socks an during the session, unscented oil will be used..

What are the benefits?
In general terms the benefits of reflexology have to do with the reduction of stress. Because the feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal and reset homeostasis, the body's equilibrium. Other benefits include:
  • Relaxation
  • Pain reduction
  • Amelioration of symptoms for health concerns
  • Rejuvenation of tired feet
  • Improvement in blood flow
  • Impact on physiological measures (e. g. blood pressure and cholesterol; measurements by ECG, EEG, and MRI)
  • Beneficial for post-operative recovery and pain reduction
  • Enhancement of medical care (e. g. cancer, phantom limb pain, and hemodialysis patients)
  • Adjunct to mental health care (e. g. depression, anxiety, Post traumatic stress disorder)
  • Complement to cancer care (pain, nausea, vomiting, anxiety)
  • Easier birthing / delivery / post-partum recovery

A short consultation will be carried out prior to your reflexology treatment. It aims to relax the body and will identify and work specific areas of tension as necessary. It can be tailored to meet your needs and finishes with a foot massage.

Treatment and Prices
  • 60 minutes - £30 (includes foot bath, treatment and foot massage)

Natural Face Lift Massage
What is it?
Natural face lift massage is a unique massage therapy that relaxes your facial and neck muscles, helping your skin to regain its elasticity whilst encouraging wrinkles and bags to diminish.
It is a safe non-invasive healthcare modality based on the energy balancing principles of ayurvedic medicine complemented by more modern techniques of Swedish-style massage, acupressure, polarity therapy and lymphatic drainage. It requires just my hands, to return your face to a more youthful appearance and increase your feeling of well being.

The massage works on sections of your face, systematically releasing deep-seated tensions and freeing layers of muscle and connective tissue so that your facial muscles can relax. Microcirculation of blood and lymph is gently restored boosting the immune system and removal of toxins. Facial tissues glide more smoothly over the deep layers of muscle and bone and your entire face is toned giving a more lifted appearance and reduced sagginess. The repetitive hand movements help to iron wrinkles away. The freer flow of blood permits better oxygen and nutrient flow helping to increase alertness, improve skin complexion and increase feelings of general well being.

This massage will work on your face, neck, arms and shoulders. You will be asked to remove any clothing that will prevent treatment to these areas, but you will be covered with towels throughout. Professional unscented facial massage cream will be used.

What are the benefits?
  • Reduced lines
  • Increased flexibility in the facial muscles
  • More defined features such as cheekbones and jaw line
  • Improved muscles tone and reduced sagginess
  • Reduction of tension induced sinus problems
  • Alertness
  • Freedom from tension headaches and eye strain
  • Improved lymphatic drainage and blood circulation
  • Boosted immune system
  • Increased positivity
  • Improved skin complexion
  • Relaxation

A short consultation will be carried out prior to your facial treatment. As a one hour treatment this massage aims to relax the muscles of the face and neck and increase your feeling of well being.
A series of six to eight weekly treatments is recommended. This is because although one session will begin to lessen wrinkles and habitual expression lines, tighten facial contours and improve skin tone, regular sessions have a cumulative effect.

Personal History During the last thirteen years I have enjoyed working with children in a variety of roles, one of which is my local Care Trust working in the paediatric physiotherapy department. My interest in this area of work prompted me to study for the Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology to gain a better knowledge and understanding of the human body. This in turn led to an interest in holistic therapies as I could see for myself the benefits that can be gained from “hands-on” therapies such as massage, reflexology, reiki, facial rejuvenation and pregnancy massage. I am a fully trained Baby Massage Instructor and gain immense satisfaction working with parents/carers who wish to learn the skill of massage with their babies/children.
