Massage

Therapeutic Massage

My approach to massage aims at improving muscle function and enabling the client to relax and regain a more balanced and resilient body.

Your presenting symptoms, preferences, medical history and lifestyle are taken into account and help me to form a picture of what the treatment should entail. The treatment can be mostly gentle and relaxing or energising - it all depends on working together with you, the client.

Range of techniques available: Swedish Massage - Sports Massage - Aromatherapy Massage - Massage & Hot Stones - Hot Stone Fusion - Dynamic Bodywork - Chair Massage - Indian Head Massage - Triggerpoint Therapy

You may be looking for a Massage to relax or have deep tissue work in mind, you may be undergoing medical treatment and feeling a bit fragile - whatever your needs, we can find the right massage for you!

------------------------------------------------------

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage combines the benefits of heat applications (Thermotherapy) with the strokes of massage using hot, round shaped basalt stones, which retain heat for a long time.

Hot Stones feel amazing and create a lasting feeling of well-being. They also help to instantly resolve stiff joints, muscle spasms and lower back pain, to name but a few muscular problems.

The heat of the stones warms the skin, which allows for the absorption of moisturising and therapeutic oils, while simultaneously preparing the musculature of the body so deeper muscle layers can be treated.

With the Hot Stone Fusion technique developed by JING of Brighton the whole body - from arms & legs, to neck, shoulders and back, to toes - will be treated using an almost continuous flow of massage strokes. The client never lies on any stones, but stones are placed on or near the body - where they keep radiating their wonderful heat.

Following the treatment you will need a little rest to enjoy the effects of this unique experience!

Aromatherapy Massage

------------------------------------------------------
A very relaxing massage to soothe away tension and stress. Fine Aromatherapy oils are used to pamper and re-energise you. Utter bliss!

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a seated massage applied through clothes. The client rests in a comfortable chair whilst the therapist gently massages shoulders, arms, back and neck and scalp. Oils can be applied to improve scalp and hair, however, most people enjoy this 40 min treatment without oils. The client will initially feel very calm and relaxed, often followed by a feeling of being re-energised.

Indian Head Massage can be easily carried out at your home, in a treatment room or in the office. It is not advised for people with low blood pressure.

------------------------------------------------------

Seated Chair Massage

This massage is carried out with the client kneeling in a massage chair, with the front of the body being supported by the chair.

During a treatment the therapist will treat tension in the upper body, mainly neck, shoulders, arms and upper back using various, often hands free, techniques through the client’s clothes.

Treatments are usually short and last between 15 and 20 mins. Ideal for the office environment.

Chair Massage can also be used if the client prefers the chair to a massage couch.

Aromatherapy

Essential oils are have many health giving properties. Not only can the scent help you as part of a therapeutic treatment. Moreover, if absorbed through the skin it can help to treat aches and pains and many other types of discomfort.

A wide range of conditions and disorders may benefit from Aromatherapy and it is considered to be a gentle treatment suitable for all age groups. It is especially beneficial for long-term chronic conditions. Conditions that may be relieved by Aromatherapy include painful limbs, muscles and joints due to arthritic or rheumatic disorders, respiratory complaints, digestive disorders, skin conditions, throat and mouth infections, urinary tract infections and problems affecting the hair and scalp. Also, period pains, burns, insect bites and stings, headaches, high blood pressure, feverishness, menopausal symptoms, poor circulation and gout can benefit from aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is of great benefit in relieving stress and stress-related symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia and depression.

As part of a holistic approach essential oils can be used at home. This way many of a client’s symptoms can be alleviated on a daily basis and a new sense of well-being can be felt.

Reflexology

Healing through the Feet

Reflexology can prompt the body to balance itself in a gentle and relaxing way. It is based on the principle that reflex points in the feet are connected to every part of the body. At the same time treatments are aimed at creating a sense of calm and relaxation. Reducing stress levels is paramount for our health as stress depletes the body of vital resources. In this way Reflexology can help to take you on a path to better health.

Many health conditions and stress related discomfort, such as headaches & migraine, menopausal problems, digestive disorders, back pain, heart palpitations or low moods and anxiety can be eased significantly.

How can Reflexology have such a powerful effect?

The human body is always striving to heal itself and to achieve a state of balance. Reflexology can prompt the body to relax and work on a particular area.

Every treatment will improve your overall sense of well-being and contribute towards feeling more and more at ease in your own body.

Reiki

(meaning: Universal life giving energy)

Reiki is the most simple healing method known. It activates the body's own natural ability to heal itself by releasing blocked energies, thereby creating a sense of balance and relaxation.

Reiki is channelled through the hands of the therapist to the client. A treatment involves lying on a couch or sitting in a comfortable chair, fully clothed and covered by a blanket. The Practitioner will then place her hands gently over or on your body. During the treatment you may feel certain subtle sensations, such as warmth or tingling. You may experience a sense of lightness or floating. The sensations are usually positive and relaxing.

Reiki can relieve stress, tension and pain. In this way it is very beneficial emotionally and physically. Following the treatment most people feel a sense of peace and calmness, which stays with them for some time afterwards.

Reiki was introduced by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan in the twenties. Usui was a wealthy business man who turned to become a Buddhist monk, and studied healing in China, Japan and Europe. He founded a healing society and helped thousands of the victims of the big earth quake in 1922.

Since then Reiki has been passed on by many Reiki Masters and Teachers. It is practised all over the world.

Hopi Ear Candling

Ear candling is a gentle and safe therapy which helps to cleanse the ears. Its origin is attributed to the American Hopi Indians of North Arizona with their recipes still serving as the base of todays ear candles.

Ear candling works to prevent and treat waxy ears, it may help to relieve pressure resulting from sinusitis, rhinitis, colds and flu and is indicated for stress and nervousness.

During a treatment session the client is resting comfortably on a treatment couch or bed. The atmosphere in the room is calming and restful. Relaxation music is played and essential oils will add a healing scent to the treatment.

The ear candle is then placed on the outer opening of the ear. Whilst it is being alight you can hear the subtle sound of the flame. The vibration of the flame and its warmth with have a massaging effect on the ear and ear drum which is experienced as relieving and relaxing. In the peace and quiet experienced during this treatment the client can let go of all the stresses of every day life. To enhance the effect a gentle massage is followed to release muscular tension in the face, temples and jaw line.

Following the treatment the ear candling will still be working for the following 48 hours.

Earcandling is not recommended if you have a perforated eardrum, if grommets have been fitted and are still in place inside the ear, if there is inflammation inside the ear, if the client has a cochlear implant, or is on medication from their doctor for their ear condition. You should also refrain from ear candling if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients of an ear candle (The BIOSUN Ear candles I use contain bees wax, honey extracts, organic linen and pure essential oils).

Earcandles are safe to use during pregnancy. However, it is not recommended using them within the first 3 months.

About Your Practitioner

I qualified as a Holistic Therapist in 2003. Since then I have very much enjoyed my professional journey, which is driven by the motivation to help clients enjoy ease of movement and a renewed sense of well-being.

Massage & Reflexology work well with tension and stress related discomfort. One of my first clients came to me because she suffered from headaches. After one back/neck and shoulder massage they subsided. She then came for regular top-ups because she simply loved the feeling of relaxation that follows a massage.

Another client of mine suffers from regular inflammatory conditions and finds that a combination of Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Reiki keep them at bay.

In general my clients appreciate the opportunity to receive a thorough, yet enjoyable treatment and to be able to switch off and relax from any stress and worries.

In the past I have been fortunate enough to work with excellent teachers in training facilities for complementary therapies. I have acquired experience in clinical as well as corporate settings and worked with many private clients at my clinics.

I also work with clients who suffer from chronic illness, such as Parkinson's, MS and Fibromyalgia.
