Holistic Integrative Counselling - Is It For Me?

If you are feeling stressed, worried or troubled in some way, or if you have lost your inner sense of well-being, either in your private or working lives, I can help. I offer a calm, confidential environment where, together, we can locate the inner source of your difficulties. Getting a handle on this source will pave the way to either accepting, managing or changing your life, and thus move into a more comfortable way of being again.

The self-awareness and insight which you will gain from this process can have a powerful impact for the better on your neurology and physiology. In other words, attuning to your inner life - your reactions, responses, beliefs and feelings - is the key to good health on all levels: mental, emotional and physical. In the special therapeutic environment, it is easier than in the outside world, to find new ways of living and being. With your courage and persistence, these changes can come about and the results may be even better than you imagined!

I'd like to stress that I believe that therapy is not a miracle cure nor a magic bullet, but a committed process over several weeks, months or years, depending on your individual need. Some people have improved significantly in as little as 4 sessions when they were ripe for change: I have seen remarkable movement in the short term on a few occasions. There is no doubt too that 4-6 sessions can be very supportive in a crises. However, the truth is that deep, structural change is pretty slow and indeed, most of you are going to have to be patient.



Couples & Relationship Counselling

Do you think your relationship could be better? Are you arguing all the time and getting nowhere? Do you wish the other person could be different? Does it feel as if there is no real connection any more? Are you struggling to understand what's happening between you? If you sense that the time is right to make some changes and you need help, as we all do from time to time, then I can offer you a space to explore what has been happening and how your relationship can move forward once again, in whatever way is right for you.

Difficulties occur between Couples because it is impossible for you to see the unconscious dynamic which is binding you. Once the relationship felt good, seemed right and easy, but, after the 'honeymoon' period, good feelings can subside and then the real work of relating begins. Unconscious processes get energised as time goes on and the other becomes, without you realising it, the parent or close caregiver, with whom you have unfinished issues. And even those issues from your early years are likely to be unknown to you consciously. By working through what happens in the here and now in the relationship you are giving yourself an opportunity to heal the past and repair your current relationship in one go. Sometimes repair and healing may not be possible of course, but whether you stay together or part, Couples Therapy is an opportunity to understand yourself better and to understand how and why different parts of you react to the other the way they do. Unless this understanding is gained and acted upon, history WILL repeat itself!

With this approach, it is easier to see the bigger picture whereby each of you have equally contributed to the underlying dynamic between you. This does not excuse unacceptable behaviours such as 'violence' for example, but allows us to work together to see how you have arrived at the current state of your relationship without blame on either side.

Networking Group for Women

I am now offering a space for those who would like a safe place to explore issues of your choice in a deeper, more meaningful way with the support of a group.

Like many of us today, your life may be overly busy and you may also have experienced a high level of stress so that making time for yourself goes to the bottom of the list. My intention is to create a calm environment where you can air your thoughts in a judgement free environment. This will enable the forging of closer bonds and connections to others, which is a potentially healing process and is an antidote to a “too-busy” lifestyle.

Although not necessary to know this, for those interested this group will loosely follow mindfulness principles as specified by Jon Kabat-Zinn in his book called “Full Catastrophe Living” and Thich Nhat Hanh’s “The Miracle of Mindfulness” (see Linda's Amazon Bookshop) and on research about the significance of connecting deeply with others as reported in Lynn Mactaggart’s latest book called The Bond (see Linda's Amazon Bookshop).

Creative visualisations and healing meditations will be included in order to explore various inner themes for more satisfying and compassionate living.

The group is small and personal for a maximum of 6-10 people.

I am experienced & therapeutically trained and aim to make possible the kind of environment which fosters:

A Personal Space for Sharing (8 people max) with Guidelines for Deep Listening
A Pressure-free Environment if you do not wish to share
The cost is £15 for 2 hours, including refreshments. The group will run weekly and attendance is required at all sessions (barring unforseen circumstances or illness) in order to provide a safe and secure environment and increase the opportunity to deepen the engagement with each other.

It will run in blocks roughly in line with school terms.

As an accredited and UKCP registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I believe that I may be of help to you with my uniquely personal approach, evolved and refined over 25 years and ever-open to further change. My approach is an integrative one and I can include NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) or CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Mindfulness) amongst other techniques in my integrative approach, depending on what is appropriate for you, the client.. The latter are underpinned by a calming and respectful relational style.
