The Therapist
Helen works as a mobile therapist in and around the Pontypool/Cwmbran area but will travel further afield within reason. Helen also teaches Reiki, Crystal Therapy & Meditation techniques.
Helen's original career path originated when she studied A level computer science, leading her into the world of software programming and IT and culminated in Helen's being a Database Administrator. It was during this period of Helen's life that she began to look for something different. In 1996 she re-started her career after several years as a full-time mother and wanted to discover who she was.
This was the beginning of Helen's interest in crystals and holistic healing. Helen's very first workshop was a Crystal Massage weekend with Denise Wichello Brown and that became the launchpad for Helen's desire to become a complementary therapist.
She began with a course in Anatomy & Physiology, followed by a number of different crystal therapy courses ranging from correspondence course to formal classsroom to a 2-year ICGT diploma course with Touchstones Therapies. Alongside this she began her Reiki path, initially for personal reasons, with Lorraine Rees and achieved Reiki Master Teacher in 2005.
Although she still works part-time in the world of IT as a qualified tutor, she is still continuing to develop her skills as a therapist and further her knowledge in complementary therapies. More recently she has added EFT, The Balance Procedure and Tibetan Acupressure Head Massage to her skillset and hopes to follow other avenues which this has opened up for her. Helen started teaching Reiki in 2011, choosing to deliver a 15-week evening course rather than the more traditional weekend workshop. In addition, Helen is now the principal of an ACHO-accredited school offering Crystal Therapy qualifications. Helen is also developing and delivering other one-day workshops on crystals, chakras, meditation and more.
The Therapies
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique which, simply put, aims to provide stress reduction and relaxation.
"REI" loosely translated from the Japanese means unseen or spiritual
"KI" relates to Chi - the energy within all living things
A Reiki practitioner is a person who has been 'attuned' to Reiki and can act as a conduit for Reiki energy.
The Treatment
During a general Reiki treatment the practitioner will place their hands on or above the person's body and 'channel' Reiki energy. The recipient will remain fully clothed and in order to gain the maximum benefit, would be lying on a couch, initially on their back. The recipient may feel sensations in their body such as tingling, heat, cold and/or they may notice the practitioner's hands may feel very warm or even quite hot!
The practitioner will work their way around the body starting at the head and working towards the feet, then the recipient will be asked to turn on to their front so the treatment can be repeated.
Reiki can also be performed with the recipient seated or lying on the floor.
Potential benefits that may be obtained through receiving a course of Reiki treatments include:
- Deep relaxation
- Reduced tension & anxiety
- Boosted energy levels
- A feeling of inner calm, contentment and serenity
- Feeling more positive, confident and better able to cope
- Dealing better with stressful people and situations
- Creates balance, harmony, clarity and focus
- Encourages self-love and compassion towards others
- Leads to a better quality of life for many people
- Brings a sense of purpose

Crystal Therapy
Generally crystals can be used during other treatments as an additional source of vibrational energy (e.g. reiki, reflexology, Indian Head massage), even if only for grounding during the treatment.
A crystal therapy session, however, involves the recipient lying full-clothed on a couch, although it can be done with the recipient sitting in a chair or lying on the floor . The therapist will possibly use a crystal pendulum to dowse what layouts/crystals are required for the recipient and will place them accordingly on/around the client's body. Some of the techniques/layouts used include:
- chakra balancing
- 5-line clearing
- figure of eight
- Seal of Solomon
Whatever layout(s)/techniques the therapist uses, one of the main aims of the session is to allow the recipient to feel relaxed and calm.
Potential benefits of a crystal therapy treatment include:
- a deep sense of relaxation, thereby reducing stress levels
- enhancement of other complementary therapies and treatments e.g. reiki, massage
- quick & effective balancing of the energy system
- an effective aid to spiritual & personal development

Ayurvedic Face Massage
Possibly one of the oldest facial rejuvenation routines in the world, this massage is deeply relaxing and the additional use of oils encourages the release of tension, promotes harmony and balance in the body as well as stimulating facial muscles and marma points.
The massage has many different names, including Indian Face Lift, Ayurvedic Face Lift, Ayurvedic Facial Rejuvenation etc. Essentially they are all the same routine and all have the same effects.
Ayurvedic Face Massage is based on the ancient therapeutic principles of Ayurveda. This form of therapy has been widely practiced in India for 1,000s of years, and now its popularity is slowly spreading to the Western world. Ayurvedic Face Massage aims to promote harmony and balance in the body by freeing constrictions within the facial muscles and connective tissue.
How does Ayurvedic Face Massage work?
The massage is carried out by application of massage oil and pressure along specific pressure points on the face. This helps to release all the stress-induced tension from your face and restore it to its natural balance. The therapist uses his or her fingers to stimulate these pressure points by using special massage techniques. A typical massage session can last from thirty minutes to an hour.
Ayurvedic Face Massage benefits
Ayurvedic Face Massage is the most non-invasive and natural face lift that you can get.
- Relaxes the face muscles from their contracted state;
- Removes any stress induced blockages in the muscles;
- Relaxes;
- Stimulates lymphatic drainage and blood circulation
Korean Hand Massage
This is a treatment used by thousands of people in Korea to treat minor ailments for themselves and their families; it is a totally unique alternative to hand reflexology. Every joint in the hand represents a joint in the body and the therapy is an especially good treatment for muscular skeletal problems. Also, specific areas and points on the hands correspond to specific areas and organs of the body. It is also very relaxing and helps the hands to look their best. This is a treatment that the client can learn for themselves - if they have a pain or problem somewhere in their body, they can find a corresponding tender point in the hand and as they massage that point, a soothing message will be sent to the corresponding area.
Benefits of Korean Hand Massage
- Simple and easy to use
- An alternative to hand reflexology
- Client’s can be taught to self-treat.
- Reduces stiffness and increases flexibility
- Improves skin condition of the hand
- Holistic- balances the energies within the body.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Simply put EFT is "acupuncture witout the needles!".
EFT is a technique which gently realigns the body's energy system by tapping on a series of acupuncture points whilst thinking or making statements about the issue being dealt with.
A consultation may be carried out over the telephone with the therapist talking the client through the issue and instructing which points to tap. Telephone consultations are arranged & paid for in advance.
The Balance Procedure
What is the Balance Procedure?
The Balance Procedure (TBP) is a new meridian energy therapy devised by Jenny & Alan Cox.
It is a self-help tool which, if practised regularly, can change the way a person thinks and feels, enabling them to find their true potential and live a more fulfilling life.
The way in which this can be achieved is by changing limiting thoughts and beliefs that operate on a subconscious level and have been built up during the person's life. These limiting beliefs & thoughts often sabotage the person's desire to change something in their life. We can consciously overwrite negative, limiting beliefs using The Balance Procedure.
What happens at a session?
The Balance Procedure adopts a simple testing and energy balancing technique, focusing on the thymus/heart centre, which is perceived as being the bridge between the physical and subtle bodies. This centre balances all of the body’s energy systems and is linked to every part of us – mind, body and spirit.
The client will then be asked what aspect of their life they would like to change or improve, and if there are any other factors that are relevant to their thoughts and feelings.
Once this has been determined and the client has decided on their ‘intention’ the therapist will then help them to communicate and anchor their intention to the thymus/heart centre, which will subsequently be relayed to the brain and the rest of the body.
At the end of the treatment, the therapist will discuss with the client what has taken place, and provide a self-help plan so the client can maintain the changes and help to restore balance to their energy system when necessary.

Testimonials
"I have had a few sessions of Indian Head Massage with Helen Meyrick now and have enjoyed the therapy very much. Helen uses firm but light hand movements and these, together with some relaxing ambient music, produce a relaxing body and a peaceful state of mind. I would highly recommend the treatment and the therapist to others seeking the same calming mindset."
Ray, Cwmbran
"Recently, my curiosity about Reiki got the better of me, and several sessions later, I thought it might be useful to share my perceptions.
Helen’s treatments are administered with the client fully clothed, and are very gentle and non-invasive. Working from the head downwards energy is transferred into the client’s body and this gives rise to various sensations of heat and cold. The whole process proved to be extremely relaxing.
The effects of the treatment may well depend on the individual, and their particular ailment, but I was surprised that such a gentle treatment could produce such powerful aftereffects. In the first few hours after a treatment I become extremely tired, and for two to three days after, find myself out of sorts. A day or so later I am feeling much better. These feelings are to be expected, as part of the body’s “healing crisis”, while it rebalances itself after treatment.
Helen’s skill resides in the ability to deliver these treatments in such a relaxed, down to earth manner. No painful muscular manipulations or outlandish beliefs are required, just a willingness to accept the healing, and benefit from the goodwill that Reiki has to offer.
There can’t be many of us these days who, would pass up a chance of that."
Martyn, Pontypool
"I have received Reiki , crystal therapy and Indian head massage from Helen Meyrick. The treatments had a holistic effect in terms of meeting my emotional and physical needs, allowing me to remain focused and balanced in my day to day life."
Maria, Pontypool
