Welcome to Cherque Farm Holistics!

Complementary therapies are growing more popular in our modern society and can make such a difference in improving well-being and health naturally and as a complement to medical treatment. Our treatments are undertaken from a holistic perspective, which means understanding and treating the ‘whole’ person. Complementary therapies have many psychological and physical effects on the body and can help achieve balance with the mind, body and emotions. Before each treatment a confidential medical history will be taken to ensure the therapy is suitable for you and most importantly, tailored to your individual needs. I have previous Clinic experience, am qualified to Level 3 Diploma standard and hold full professional indemnity insurance. I am an advocate of Continual Professional Development and regularly attend CTHA accredited workshops to improve my skills.

Reflexology

Reflexology is based on the principle that the entire body is mirrored on the feet. It is a scientific art which links all body parts to specific reflex areas and by gently massaging these reflex points on the foot, nerve endings and blood circulation are stimulated helping the body to remove blockages and restore natural balance. By reducing stress it causes physiological changes in the body such as reduced inflammation, improved energy flow and the release of pain relief and well being hormones (endorphins and cortisone). If the body is free from tension, it can begin to heal and function as nature intended.

The main benefits of reflexology are:

Promotes deep relaxation - Reduces anxiety - Improves the mood - Releases deep seated unhelpful emotions - Improves sleeping patterns with better quality sleep - Relieves tension in the body - Promotes a sense of well-being - Encourages healing to relieve many conditions, in particular digestive problems and stress related illnesses.

Many of my clients have reported relief from conditions such as anxiety and stress, Irritable bowel syndrome, acid indigestion, constipation, migraines, pre-menstrual tension, asthma, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, depression and many more.

During the consultation a relaxing foot spa will be offered which helps to relax and soften your feet prior to the treatment. The session lasts from 45 minutes to an hour depending on your age and state of health. Some people think it will feel ticklish and uncomfortable, but all my clients say it feels much better than they imagined and a deeply relaxing experience. If I feel any areas of imbalance or congestion, I will let you know at the end of the session.

Reflexology does not claim to cure or diagnose.

Maternity Reflexology

Reflexology aims to optimise the physical and emotional health of pregnant women through working on specific reflex points on the feet. The therapy can be safely used after the first trimester and after a full medical history has been taken. This relaxing therapy can help to calm the mind and balance the hormones, allowing stress to fade away and encouraging restful sleep. It is helpful in relieving the aches and pains of pregnancy such as back pain, SPD, indigestion, constipation and poor circulation. Recent trials have found that those receiving regular treatments during pregnancy, tend to deliver closer to term and have shorter and less painful labours.

Reflexology may be very successful for labour induction. I work on specific reflex points on the foot to help stimulate the pituitary gland which produces the hormone oxytocin which is necessary to kick start labour. The internal pelvic reflexes are stimulated which can have the same effect as bouncing on a birthing ball!

Please note I will not use these labour techniques until you are 40 weeks pregnant. Please contact me to discuss further.

Infertility Reflexology

If you are trying to conceive, Infertility Reflexology can help support you both physically and emotionally. Stress is a complex condition which affects almost all parts of the body in some way. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that it may affect fertility. Cortisol (a hormone released in response to stress) can reduce the production of two hormones vital to conception. Reflexology relaxes the nervous system and balances the hormones and as such is thought to be an effective therapy for encouraging conception and a complementary therapy to medical fertility treatment such as IVF and IUI.

Balanced hormones encourage regular menstruation, promotes ovulation, reduces PMS symptoms and can help relieve the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis. Many couples find the process of ‘trying to conceive’ a stressful time, some have had previous traumatic experiences which bring fear and anxiety. Reflexology may help to calm the mind and ease these stresses.

Recent research suggests that on average around 50% of clients receiving reflexology for fertility issues become pregnant within six months of starting treatment. However, as with all fertility treatments, medical and complementary, there are no guarantees.

With plenty of experience of treating clients and many hours of research and study into fertility issues, I will use the medical information you give me to tailor a unique treatment for you.

Reflexology can be safely used alongside medical fertility treatment such as IVF and IUI and all sessions will focus on key reflexes involved in reproductive health, and bring them into balance. (Please note reflexology will not be given directly after the egg transfer stage during IVF).

Pregnancy Massage

If you prefer a massage, Pregnancy Massage can give you some much needed peace and quiet to help soothe away anxieties and relieve any muscular pain you are experiencing. Pregnancy changes your centre of gravity and puts extra stress on the back, neck and abdominal muscles. Pelvic joints are less stable as ligaments soften in pregnancy, changing your posture which can soon lead to an aching lower back. You will be laying on your side to receive the massage or sitting up, depending on what is the most comfortable position for you.

Hot Stone Massage

It is said that one stroke of the stone is equivalent to ten of the hand. This therapy has been used for thousands of years for balancing all levels of emotional, mental and physical energies. Volcanic in origin, lava stones are heated and massaged over the body. It is intensive energy work that enables relaxation and for many a reduction in stress levels. Hot stones increase the circulation and soften muscle fascia more deeply than traditional massage therapies and the benefits include;

Sedative effect on the nervous system - Relief of muscle tightness/pain - Lymphatic drainage - Boosts immune system - Calms digestive system - Alleviate swelling and reduces inflammation.

Indian Head Massage

If you are suffering from back, neck, shoulder pain or frequent headaches, Indian Head Massage could really benefit you. Indian Head Massage is a therapeutic massage of the upper back, arms, neck, shoulders, head and face. It is effective for relieving tension that can cause pain and muscle tightness for example from hours at a computer desk. As well as being deeply relaxing, it can also revitalise you if you feel constantly tired and lack energy. The facial massage involves the massage of acupressure points on the face which enhance your well being and help you feel balanced. This treatment is given laying down rather than in a chair.

Eases headaches - Reduces mental fatigue - Improves circulation - Relaxes the scalp - Reduces tension and stiffness in neck, shoulders and upper back - Boosts Immune system - Promotes deep relaxation - Aids detoxification of the body - Improves concentration - Increases energy levels - Improved hair/scalp condition.

Hopi Ear Candles

If you are suffering from head colds, hay fever, sinusitis, headaches, swimmers ear or excessive wax this treatment could really benefit you. The candles are made of cotton, beeswax and therapeutic oils. When placed in the ear the candle produces a light suction action and the movement of the flame creates a vibration of air in the candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. It induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for earache, headache and sinus problems. The light suction action gently draws impurities to the surface and gradually softens and breaks up any earwax or mucus that may be blocking the tubes and sinuses within the ear and head. A facial massage will be given which aids sinus and lymph drainage.
Using high quality, Biosun ear candles which comply with EC guidelines, you can be confident this therapy is safe and non-invasive.
