Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft Tissue Therapy (STT) is the assessment, treatment & management of soft tissue injury, pain and dysfunction. STT uses sports & remedial deep tissue massage, soft tissue manipulation, trigger point therapy & exercise prescription to treat the following:
    - sports & non-sports injury
    - muscular aches & pains
    - muscle tears
    - tendon pain (e.g. achilles)
    - sprains
    - neck & back pain
    - overuse injuries (e.g. tennis elbow)
    - bad posture
Soft Tissue Therapy can help reduce physical aches & pains whether they’re caused by sport, injury or simply the stresses of modern day life. People all over the world are discovering its wide ranging benefits which can also help a variety of medical conditions. Preventing injury is one of the other benefits of STT, particularly the use of deep tissue massage. Regular STT can help identify areas that may develop into more serious problems in the future.

Sports Massage

Sports massage, applied skillfully, is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system. Received regularly this may help athletes prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse. A constant build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.

These muscle imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed until they are serious enough to cause the athlete discomfort or impede performance. The skilled massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues and by using the correct techniques, help the sports person maintain a much healthier physical state.

Regular deep massage is proven to increase sports performance.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage focuses on treating injuries, muscular aches and pains and postural imbalances. When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense or immobile, remedial massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Remedial massage holistically treats the whole body and traces discomfort as far as possible back to the original cause, healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms.

We use remedial massage techniques to locate tense muscular tissue. Massage of these tense areas helps speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms to create homeostasis. Key benefits include stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed, the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues and the easing of stiffness and tension are also achieved.

Trigger Point Therapy

Ever wonder what can be done to help headaches, neck stiffness, carpal tunnel type symptoms, tennis elbow, bursitis, frozen shoulder, back pain, low back stiffness, sciatica, shin splints? A massage therapist that is skilled with finding and treating trigger points just might bing you immediate relief.

Trigger Point Therapy examines and treats muscles and muscle attachments in layers from superficial to deep, ligaments and connective tissues.

Trigger points (TP’s) are accumulations of waste products around a nerve receptor. Often they feel like nodules or taut bands of fibres within the soft tissues. TP’s form in muscles which have been overused or injured. Common characteristics are increased muscle tension and muscle shortening. Increased muscle tension is the primary side-effect of trigger points but pain is the most common secondary effect. TP’s can present themselves as referred patterns of sensation such as sharp pain, dull ache, tingling, pins and needles, hot or cold.

They can also create symptoms such as nausea, ear ache, equilibrium disturbance, or blurred vision.

Body MOT

The body is constantly adapting to its environment and changing accordingly. This ‘environment’ takes the form of physical, emotional & nutritional stress.

Physical stress comes from fitness training, playing sport, from the workplace (e.g. long hours sat hunched over a desk) or a lifetime of resisting the forces of gravity.

Emotional stress can cause the body to tense up and promote negative postural changes. Nutritional stress comes from deficiencies in the diet having an affect on the condition of soft tissues.

Wherever the stress comes from the body adapts itself by changing the state of the soft tissues. It shortens, tightens, stiffens muscles which in turn affects the joints, tightens tendons, alters posture and the way the body moves. This in turn can lead to dysfunction, pain and altered movement patterns.

A Body MOT will look at your static & dynamic posture, flexibility and the way your muscles are working. Palpating (feeling) the muscles & tendons will identify any tissue changes that could eventually lead to problems. A full report will be sent to you with an exercise/ stretching plan that will help with any issues highlighted.

Stress Buster

Today’s hectic lifestyles cause many stresses and strains to our bodies. These tend to manifest as tight shoulders, necks and lower backs that can lead to headaches and other physical consequences.

This ‘Stress Buster’ treatment specifically deals with these areas using massage techniques, gentle manipulation and stretching. You will also be given some tips on how to manage tense muscles particularly whilst at work.

Why suffer? Please ring for more details.
