SERVICES

Welcome to Traditional Acupuncture Clinic

Traditional Acupuncture is a gentle, natural therapy, which will enable your body to heal itself, as far as Nature will allow.

When you get symptoms such as pain, tiredness or anxiety, your body is sending out distress signals. It is saying that there is an imbalance in your vital energy or Qi.

As your Acupuncturist I will be actively seeking the underlying cause of this imbalance and by treatment will want to remove the symptoms.

The side effect of treatment is to help you feel better in a general way, promoting an improved quality of life.

Who chooses Acupuncture?

A wide variety of people come for treatment, ranging from children to the elderly. A lot of people come for Acupuncture as their first choice of treatment whilst others find it extremely beneficial when other forms of treatment have been unsuccessful.

Increasingly people are becoming aware of the need to take responsibility for their health and to take measures to prevent problems. As your Acupuncturist I can help with the prevention of disease by balancing your Qi as soon as it starts to go out of balance and by giving advice.

As well as seeking help with physical problems people choose Acupuncture for stress-related disorders and the effect of mental and emotional conflict in their lives.

A recent national survey found that most patients attend acupuncture for:
  • Muscular / skeletal problems
  • General weakness / tiredness/ feeling ill
  • General wellbeing
  • Digestive problems
  • High blood pressure
  • Headache / Migraine
  • Feeling anxious / stressed
  • Insomnia
  • Asthma / breathing difficulty / sinus problems
  • Menstrual problems / infertility

The World Health Organisation particularly recommends Acupuncture for the following:

Infections e.g. colds, flu, bronchitis,
Muscular-skeletal and Neurological
e.g. arthritis, neuralgia, sciatica, back pain, tendonitis, stiff neck, Bell’s Palsy, headache, stroke, polio, sprains, cerebral palsy.
Mental – emotional e.g. anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia.
Skin problems e.g. eczema, acne,
Internal: e.g. asthma, ulcers, colitis, indigestion, haemorrhoids, constipation, diarrhoea, diabetes, high blood pressure,
Ear-eyes-nose-throat e.g. deafness, earaches, tinnitus, dizziness, sore throat, hay fever, poor eyesight, sinus infections
Genito-urinary and reproductive e.g. impotence, infertility, PMT, irregular or painful periods, morning sickness.

For some conditions Western medical treatment should be your first choice and I can advise you on this.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Your first appointment will include a Traditional Diagnosis. This may take up to 1 ½ hours as it is important to get to the bottom of your problem.

Asking a lot of questions, taking your pulse and looking at your tongue are just some of the ways I will determine what needs to be done to balance your Qi.

Treatment is by the insertion of extremely fine needles into points of energy. You may also need Moxibustion (the application of warmth) over the points of energy.

On the day of treatment it is best to keep off alcohol and to eat lightly before and after treatment. To maximise the benefit of your Acupuncture it is best to take it a little easy just before treatment and for a few hours afterwards.

Responses to treatment

Every one is different and the response to treatment varies.

Often the first thing to improve is general wellbeing and health and then improvement in the main complaint will follow. However you may notice an improvement in your main complaint straight away.

Some people will feel revitalised mentally or physically, while others notice subtle changes in retrospect.

The length of time you have had the problem will help me assess how quickly you will improve.

Number and frequency of treatments

To start with you will need treatment once a week and as soon as there is improvement your treatments can be spaced out. Some people only need a few treatments and others require extensive treatment.
