About Judith Vigurs
Judith Vigurs is a professionally qualified Alexander teacher with 18 years teaching experience. She trained at the Alexander Techniek Opleiding Nederland in Amsterdam from 1986 to 1989 and worked in the Netherlands for many years. In 2003, she returned to England and now lives in Newcastle. Judith is an accredited teacher member of STAT, the Society of Teachers of Alexander Technique (www.stat.org.uk).
Judith works mainly one-to-one, at her home in Whickham and at the Therapy Centre (NE) in nearby Morpeth. In addition to the basic individual lessons, she also runs an on-going series of small groups in Morpeth, to help pupils develop and maintain their Alexander skills. Group sessions are held fortnightly and are both instructive and fun! Judith enjoys working with people with a variety of different interests and needs and is happy to tailor her lessons to meet individual goals.
The Alexander Technique
The Alexander technique is a gentle method for changing habits and attitudes. It enhances body awareness and functioning and gives new freedom, coordination and energy. The technique has helped millions of people all over the world to improve their posture, release muscle tension and relieve persistent neck, joint and back pain.
Alexander work is based on the understanding that each of us operates as a whole in every situation. The physical, mental and emotional aspects of the self are involved, in a practical way, in everything that we do.
It is traditionally taught one to one, although many teachers also work with small groups. Alexander teachers communicate the principles of the method through verbal instruction and touch. Teacher and student work together to bring about change. This method is not just for people suffering from pain or stress: it can help anyone who is interested in learning to move more freely and easily and in exploring the connection between body and mind, or in looking and feeling better through improved posture and movement.
