SERVICES

Welcome to Ascot Natural Health Centre

Here at Ascot Natural Health, we believe that prevention has to be better than cure. In an age of fast, stressful living it is essential that we make time to relax, unwind and be made whole again.

Our extensive portfolio of safe, effective therapies not only tackles the underlying cause of today’s health problems, but also help safeguard against future injury and ill health.

You will find just the right approach to suit each family member from newborn to seniors to address a specific condition or simply to relax, de-stress and re-balance.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture can and is used to treat a wide variety of conditions. In traditional acupuncture in which illness is seen to result in an imbalance of energy, treatment can benefit almost any ill person as long as a degenerative process is not too extensive. Typical conditions treated are: anxiety/depression, arthritis, asthma, pain, eczema, sports injuries, allergies and hay fever, migraine, menstrual disorders, gastrointestinal problems and pregnancy management and delivery. It is also used in a preventative manner to keep the body in tune.

Acupuncture is a safe treatment for all. It has proved to be effective in pregnancy management and for the relief of pain in childbirth. Acupuncture is also helpful for people trying to overcome addictions such as those related to smoking, alcohol, food or drugs.

Some people may have acupuncture as a preventive measure to strengthen their constitution, or because they feel unwell in themselves without being ‘ill’ in the Western sense. It can also be used alongside conventional medicine in the treatment of both acute and chronic disease. As with any therapy, the response to acupuncture can vary from one person to another.

Allergy and Food Sensitivity Testing

Many people today find that they suffer from an allergy or intolerance to foods, additives or substances in their environment. This may be because our diet has changed significantly in the last few decades with more foods available and increased amounts of chemicals being used in their production and storage.

The number of ingredients included in even simple snacks and meals makes it difficult for people to work out what may be affecting them. Also, as it can take up to 2-3 days for symptoms to show, there will be many complex meals taken in the intervening period.

In addition, our environment contains many natural and synthetic (man-made) chemicals that we can be sensitive to. Sensitivities of this kind can be equally hard to recognise and therefore testing can be helpful in identifying the cause of the reactions.

This is why many people find that allergy/food sensitivity testing a more thorough, precise approach to looking at what may be affecting them.

Amatsu

Amatsu is an ancient Japanese hands-on therapy that treats the whole body, not just the symptoms. It realigns the physical structure, removing any unnatural pulls and pressure points within the body, influences the internal organs and thus promoting health and wellbeing. The unique nature of Amatsu means that there are few conditions that Amatsu cannot improve. A few of the more common conditions that Amatsu can help are: back, hip, neck and shoulder pain; sciatic pain; IBS; RSI; shoulder, knee and ankle problems; headaches and migraines.

It’s the use of natural movement that gives Amatsu its unique approach to restoring health. It allows the therapist to understand where the specific pulls and pressure points are within the body (which may well not be within the health complaint area) and alleviate them, thus treating the exact needs of the client’s body. Even from one specific point on the body, Amatsu can influence many of its structures and systems and thus bring the body back into alignment.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being. The Benefit of an Aroma - Inhaling Essential Oils

Essential oils that are inhaled into the lungs offer both psychological and physical benefits. Not only does the aroma of the natural essential oil stimulate the brain to trigger a reaction, but when inhaled into the lungs, the natural constituents (naturally occurring chemicals) can supply therapeutic benefit. Diffusing eucalyptus essential oil to help ease congestion is a prominent example.

Bowen Technique

As the fastest growing complementary therapy in the UK today, The Bowen Technique offers relief for a wide range of painful and stress-related conditions, usually with amazingly quick results. Significant improvements are often experienced after just one treatment with complete resolution of many complaints in as few as three or four sessions.

Bowen is a gentle, relaxing and highly effective hands-on therapy that works by stimulating the body’s own resources deeply and accurately. Using only light pressure, unique rolling movements are made over specific muscles, ligaments and tendons at key stress points of the body. These unique moves send impulses to the brain which encourage the body to switch off the stress response - 'fight or flight', increase blood flow into the area and revert the body to its natural healing state.

Child Occupational Therapy

An occupational therapist is trained to help a child or young person develop or maintain their independence skills. This includes the ability to dress, wash, play, participate in school life and feed themselves. Occupational therapists can work with the child at home, in their school or in the community.

Sometimes a child will need occupational therapy to help them change the way in which they complete an activity, for example by working with them on their ability to coordinate themselves, use their hands, or improve their planning skills. Treatment is usually activity based and play, group or craft activities are carefully used in the child’s programme.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture is a great tool to counter signs of aging. It can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, combat sagging skin, brighten a dull complexion, and even help to clear up acne. Whilst at first glance, this may appear only to focus on the external, cosmetic acupuncture comes from ancient healing practices of Chinese medicine which is holistic.

When a patient seeks cosmetic acupuncture for beauty concerns, the practitioner will take into account life style, diet, sun exposure and stress levels to understand which organs are in need of a boost. Once this is established the practitioner will decide on a treatment plan that is designed to promote balance within the body. Sterile, single use, disposable needles will be used on the body and the face to promote balance and circulation. Cosmetic acupuncture works to rebalance the endocrine and immune systems, strengthen vital organs, and promote cardiovascular function. Your beautiful skin will be a by-product of a rejuvenated body.

From a Chinese medicine point of view, the primary objective of a cosmetic acupuncture treatment is to improve the function of the organs and balance their relationship with each other. Feel comforted that investing in cosmetic acupuncture is an investment in your health as well your external beauty.

Craniosacral Therapy

This is an extremely gentle yet profound therapy in which the therapist uses a light touch to “listen” to what is going on in your body. It focuses on the natural motion of the fluids surrounding and the tissues connecting the cranial bones, the spine and the sacrum at the end of the spine. Whilst “listening” to the subtle rhythmic motion of these fluids and tissues, the therapist is able to identify any restrictive patterns and to help your body to release them, thereby lessening any stresses and / or pain that you may be experiencing. Craniosacral Therapy is so gentle and safe that it is suitable for people of all ages and in treating almost any condition, from acute to chronic (long term) health problems, or to aid recovery from an injury or operation. It is also particularly effective in treating babies for a range of infant problems.

It is a whole body therapy which helps to increase vitality and stimulates and supports the body’s own healing processes.

Emotional Freedom Technique

In simple terms EFT is an emotional form of acupuncture using your fingertips instead of needles. You tap with your fingertips on certain meridian points over the body to stimulate them while you are ‘tuned in to a problem’. The theory is that ‘the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system’, so by tapping on the acupressure points, you help release the energy blockage and this then releases the emotional issue.

Once EFT has cleared out emotional debris, you will then notice how physical ailments start to fade. Headaches, back pains and other discomforts often tend to improve or vanish as emotional issues improve (this is the essence of Mind Body Medicine). Your vision may become clearer and everyday stress may take less toll on your system.

Facial Rejuvanessence

Facial Rejuvanessence is a blissful, wonderfully gentle treatment that enhances the body's own ability to restore and refresh.

The many benefits of Rejuvanessence® mean you will look better, feel better, breathe better!

Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is the use of natural remedies to treat almost any condition that you may take to your GP. In fact, registered Medical Herbalists are trained in the same diagnostic skills as orthodox doctors, but have an entirely different approach to addressing ill health. The crucial difference is their focus on treating the body as a whole and in resolving the underlying cause of the problem rather than the symptoms alone.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a gentle system of healing suitable for everyone especially pregnant and sensitive patients. Homeopathy recognises that illness is a whole-person process, symptoms will always be put into the perspective of the whole patient’s medical and personal history. As a truly holistic therapy, homeopathy works by gently boosting the natural energy of the body helping it to heal itself.

Homeopathy works on the principle of the Law of Similars which means that something that can cause a symptom may also be able to cure it, in simple terms “like cures like”. To illustrate “like cures like” we know that in sensitive individuals coffee can cause insomnia, palpitations and rushing thoughts, but in homeopathic dilutions it can cure similar symptoms so that one of the remedies to be considered for a person suffering from these effects would be the homeopathic remedy Coffea.

It focuses on the individual, concentrating on treating specific physical and emotional symptoms. Treatment is highly individualised and is tailor-made to deal with your unique set of problems. Treatment may consist of homeopathic remedies in pill, tablet or liquid form and lifestyle advice.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic introduction of certain ideas into the mind while the patient is in a relaxed and comfortable state. It is now becoming widely accepted as a form of alternative therapy, which has proved successful in the treatment of stresses and various depressive conditions. Contrary to popular belief however the process of hypnotherapy is one that is carried out while the subject is conscious and at no time do they lose consciousness.

Career & Confidence Coaching

Do you ever find yourself wondering how you got where you are today and asking why you allowed yourself to do so?

Perhaps you’ve discovered you really are in the wrong job or want that promotion but can’t seem to get it? Your confidence is slowly ebbing away and often it feels easier just to keep doing the same old thing – except that deep down you know you really don’t want to?

Career and Confidence Coaching looks at the thoughts and behaviour you have today that may have contributed to your sense of frustration and then helps you work through a new set of goals and aims to get you out of your rut and back in the direction you really want to go.

For those who aren’t sure which direction they do want – and there are many people like that – Coaching can help you reassess your values and what’s important to you so you get a clearer idea of what you do need to feel more fulfilled.

The outcome is that you start believing in yourself again, in your ability to succeed and in your skills and talents which set you apart from others.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an advanced therapy in which the practitioner uses a range of very light, stroking techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic system and in turn transports toxins and waste cells.

The first visit will include a consultation during which the therapist will recommend the number and frequency of future sessions. Each session will last approximately one hour. Where appropriate the therapist will work in conjunction with your medical practitioner.

NLP

You could think of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) as an owner's manual for the brain. It is the science of how the brain codes learning and experience. This coding affects all communication and behaviour. It affects how you learn and how you perceive the world around you. It is a key to reaching goals and achieving excellence.

The 'Neuro' part of NLP acknowledges the fundamental idea that all behaviour stems from our neurological processes of sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste and feeling. We experience the world through our five senses, making sense of the information and then acting on it. The 'Linguistic' part of the title indicates that we use language and other non-verbal communication to order our thoughts and behaviour and to communicate with others. The 'Programming' refers to ways we can choose to organise our ideas, our sequences of repetitive behaviour and actions, to produce results. So NLP explores the relationship between how we think (Neuro), how we communicate (Linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour (Programming).

Although well grounded in psychological theory and research, NLP is first and foremost about action rather than theory. It deals with the structure of subjective experience, how we organise what we see, hear and feel and how we edit and filter the outside world through our senses. NLP is a model of communication that focuses on identifying and using patterns of thought that influence a person's behaviour as a means of improving the quality and effectiveness of their lives.

NLP is an effective proven vehicle for accelerated human change, radically altering the 'old way' of lengthy psychotherapy.

Nutritional Therapy

The nutritional approach to health and well-being is not new. In AD 390 Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. In the early 20th century Thomas Edison said “The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition”. In the 1960s Dr Linus Pauling coined the phrase ‘orthomolecular nutrition’. Quite simply - by giving the body the right (ortho) molecules, most disease could be eradicated. “Optimum nutrition”, he said “is the medicine of tomorrow”.

What you eat and drink are vital to what you are - and what you may become. Every time you choose something to eat - be it a meal, a snack or something consumed 'on the run', you are making a decision that can affect your body in a positive or a negative way.

Nutritional therapy is considered to be a complementary therapy, which can be used alongside orthodox medicine. Therapists sometimes work with patients referred by medical practitioners, who have chronic health problems that conventional medicine may find difficult to treat. The therapist works closely with the client to conduct a holistic assessment of their nutritional requirements and to compile an individual prescription for diet and supplementation, in order to alleviate, or prevent illness and promote optimal health.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a treatment where the therapist works primarily on the client’s feet. This is so much more than a simple foot massage. Reflexology helps to rebalance the whole body. When done by a skilled practitioner, reflexology is deeply relaxing treatment with benefits that can be felt throughout the body.

Nearly every part of the body is represented on the foot at acupressure points. Various points on the feet, toes and ankles are stimulated and energy levels are stimulated and stress is reduced. Reflexology can also help conditions such as neck strain and back pain as well as PMS, nausea and sinus problems.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese form of healing involving the transfer of energy from practitioner to patient, to enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy.

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is Japanese for ‘Universal Life Force’. This energy is also known as ‘Chi’ in Chinese therapies or ‘Prana’ in Ayurvedic medicine. It flows around the body along energy pathways or meridians. It is this energy that flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. If the energy flow is blocked, disease or pain can occur.

Reiki is a gentle stress reduction and healing system which was developed in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui. It is activated by intention and works on every level, not just the physical. Reiki energy promotes the body’s own self-healing ability and the practitioner facilitates healing by channeling Reiki to balance the Life Force energy in the body. The higher-vibration Reiki energy removes any blocks, thus relaxing and revitalising the receiver.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing traditional Japanese therapy. Literally translated, Shiatsu means 'finger pressure', but the hands, arms, knees and feet are used as well as, where appropriate, more dynamic rotations and stretches. Many people think of Shiatsu as acupuncture without needles.

The treatment uses the same energy channels in the body (known as meridians), and the same pressure points, but with Shiatsu there are no needles. Both therapies have their origins in traditional oriental medicine dating back thousands of years. Each session lasts approximately one hour and usually takes place on a futon at floor level, although it is possible to receive Shiatsu sitting on a chair if you are unable to lie down.

You remain fully clothed, so you should wear a comfortable long-sleeved top, loose trousers and socks.

On the physical level, Shiatsu stimulates blood circulation, the nervous system and the flow of lymphatic fluid.

On a deeper level, Shiatsu helps the body to release toxins and tensions. It encourages deep relaxation, encouraging the body to re-balance itself and allowing it to regain its own healing abilities in a greater sense of well-being.
