What is Indian Head Massage?
The treatment offered in the UK is a westernised version of an ancient Indian practice based on the Ayurvedic healing system. As well as the head, the neck, upper arms and shoulders are massaged in order to release muscular tension which often accumulates in these areas of the body.
How is the massage carried out?
The treatment is carried out with the client seated in a low backed chair to allow access to the upper back. There is no necessity to remove clothes, but the massage can also be performed directly on to skin with a towel around the shoulders, and oils may be used if the client prefers.
How does it work?
The basis of the treatment is the release of tension and stimulation of circulation, which can result in the relief of many stress related conditions, such as headaches, insomnia and mental tiredness. Some immediate improvement may be felt after one treatment, but lasting benefits will only be achieved by regular sessions.

Is the treatment suitable for everyone?
There are certain conditions which make Indian Head Massage inadvisable, such as recent head or neck injuries, high or low blood pressure and skin or scalp infections.
