Our mission

At Equilibrium we have one simple aim and that’s to provide the very best in complementary medicine and alternative healthcare, working with you to improve every aspect of your health and well-being. Our starting point is always 'What do you need?'

We aim for excellence, and select our staff and therapists accordingly. We intend to exceed your highest expectations, each and every time you visit!

What can we do for you?

Good health concerns your entire well being, and is not simply an absence of illness. We believe that prevention really is better than cure. There is an apt Chinese proverb:

"The time to start digging a well is before you are thirsty"

We aim to treat you holistically, not simply attend to your presenting symptoms. In the words of Sir William Osler,

"It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what disease a person has."

The Centre has 100% organic paints throughout, 100% wool carpets, access for disabled people, complimentary organic herbal and fruit teas, tea, coffee, chilled water…… and only the highest quality professional therapists dedicated to improving your health. With evening and weekend opening hours, we feel sure that we can be of service to you, at a time that’s convenient and price that’s affordable.

Osteopathy

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy focuses on the musculo-skeletal system (better known as bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue) and the way all these parts work together to make the body function with ease. When a part of this complex unit stops functioning or will not move normally the body is in dis-ease.

How and why the body fails to function correctly may be due to poor posture; over-use from sport; injury; incorrect lifting or habits which have been allowed to develop over the years until the body decides it has had enough and complains.

Osteopaths diagnose and treat the dis-ease, attempting to restore normal function and can advise on maintaining a realistic level of health and avoiding further damage.

Instead of drugs, osteopaths use their hands both to discover the underlying causes of pain and to carry out treatment using a variety of techniques. These may include soft tissue stretching, passive joint movements or high velocity thrust techniques to improve and restore the range of movement of a joint.

What happens during an Osteopathic consultation?

When you visit for the first time you will be asked to fill in a confidential medical history form. At your consultation your medical history will be discussed and you will be given an examination. Questions regarding your lifestyle including factors such as work and leisure activities will enable a full diagnosis.

You may be asked to remove some of your clothing and to perform a simple series of movements so that the mobility of your body can be evaluated. During the examination and dependent upon your presenting complaint various standard orthopaedic tests will be conducted, this will provide the osteopath with the necessary information to make as full and accurate diagnosis of your condition as possible.

After your examination the osteopath should be able to diagnose your condition and discuss and determine a suitable treatment plan. This will vary depending on your condition, but at all times you will be able to discuss the treatment and care you are receiving.

Each person is individual and treatment is specific for that person and their condition. You will be advised as to how many treatments will be required in order to alleviate your symptoms.
