Would you like to feel more content with the way you live your life?

My Practice
I have been providing a professional, therapeutic counselling service in Nottingham since completing my counselling training in 2004. I provide face-to-face counselling in Nottingham and the surrounding area, telephone counselling throughout the UK and online counselling to the global community.

How Can I Help You?
I work with individuals, couples and groups - so whatever your current situation or reason for seeking therapeutic support, you can be assured that help is at hand.

By choosing to work with me, you have the opportunity to engage in a therapeutic, confidential service with an accredited professional who can help you gain a deeper understanding of who you are and why you are seeking help. You can choose how much or how little you wish to discuss in your therapy sessions – I will not judge your choices and will always respect your decisions. Working in this way values your individuality and together we can explore why you would like your life to be different and how this can be achieved.

My Background
I began counselling in 2004 and have provided counselling in a wide range of settings. In 2007 I developed Direct Counselling UK and began working privately. In addition to my private practice I currently provide counselling for the NHS, Jeremy Kyle Show and ISAS (Incest and Sexual Abuse Survivors). I have previously counselled students in higher education, pupils aged 11 - 18 in mainstream and private secondary education and workplace counselling to employees. I have worked with clients of varying ages with a wide range of needs, backgrounds and concerns. All of this experience and knowledge is bought to the work we do together.

There are many reasons why people seek counselling. I regularly work with issues such as abuse, addictions, anxiety, bereavement, depression, eating disorders, loss, self esteem, sexuality, sexual abuse, trauma, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and work related stress.

My Way Of Working
In addition to the ‘talking therapy’ I use a variety of techniques to help develop insights, awareness and answers to the questions which you bring; drawing from therapeutic approaches including art therapy and image therapy. You are free to choose what you think will work for you and will not be directed towards a particular method or way of working.

If there is a particular problem that you wish to explore in your sessions - either a work-related or personal issue, then you may choose to focus solely on this in your sessions. Using techniques from various models including SFBT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy) you will have the opportunity to unravel and understand what is happening for you and explore strategies that will work for you.

Length Of Counselling Sessions
The number of counselling sessions you require will be entirely up to you. I offer therapy on a short term and longer term basis. It is usual for short term or focussed counselling to last between six to eight sessions; whilst longer term counselling can last from 12 sessions onwards. You are free to end your counselling whenever you wish, although it is useful to plan a final session to discuss the point you have reached and what you have achieved.

Assessment And Fees
I can answer any queries you may have about counselling prior to you deciding whether to proceed. Alternatively, if you wish to make an appointment, you can contact me to arrange an assessment session. This assessment session will give you the opportunity to meet me and discuss your issue in full before any further commitments to working together are made. If you decide that counselling is not the best solution for you, then we can discuss alternative support that may be available and how you can access this.

Each counselling session, including the assessment, lasts 50 minutes. My usual fee is £40 per session and the assessment session is £20. Consessions are available in some circumstances for students and unwaged.

Testimonials Over the years clients have wished to make testimonials of their experience of working therapeutically with me. I include a few below “I would highly recommend Anna Graves. She took time to completely understand me and my issues. She is an excellent communicator and always allowed me to find my own solutions.” “It was a pleasure working with you, you held me when I was falling down and kept me right up. Thank you for everything. You escorted my long, tough journey” “I found self disclosure particularly helpful in my sessions, as this helped me to feel able to open up with my own issues which were similar. There were no judgements made against me” “I received an email the day after I emailed which was very prompt. I felt comfortable to discuss any issues during the counselling sessions and that the time was completely mine to use however would help me. I found Anna helped highlight keypoints and clarify difficult issues, which at the time were hazy. I always felt very supported and free to discuss anything in a non-judgemental and safe environment. Thank you.” "Counselling helped me gain confidence again. I would use this service again if I needed to. Thank you Anna, for all your help and support" "The counselling helped me to look at my life as a whole and I was able to seek help from Anna about issues unrelated to the original issue that I'd gone for, which was really helpful. It also helped me to piece bits together that I'd never seen as linked before."
