About Lawrence Stroud

The acupuncturist at Acupuncture Middlesbrough is Lawrence Stroud. He spent 4 years studying at CICM (The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine at Reading) and at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York, gaining a BSc(Hons) in Acupuncture.

His training and on-going professional development include:-
  • Western Medicine, including anatomy, physiology.
  • Adherence to codes of Safe Practice and Professional Conduct and compliance with current health and safety legislation.
  • Full professional indemnity, medical malpractice and public liability insurance cover.
  • Up-to-date practice skills maintained through continuing professional development in Japanese acupuncture.
Lawrence now uses 'Kiiko Matsumoto Style' Japanese acupuncture, which he finds very effective and which uses thinner needles with much less needling sensation than mainstream Chinese or medical acupuncture, allowing the patient to relax and enjoy the treatment.

We care about our patients and are passionate about what we do. We strive to make each session an enjoyable and healing experience. We want our patients to feel comfortable and at ease.

Why try Acupuncture Middlesbrough

We all have a most amazing self-healing body. It is actually possible to live to a very old age and never have to see a doctor! However, the stresses of life often cause our self-healing to become less efficient and we end up getting unwell or in pain.

For over 2,000 years, Acupuncture has helped hundreds of millions of people worldwide back to full health. Coming for a few acupuncture treatments can strengthen your own healing powers, leading to improvements in your symptoms and your general feeling of ‘well being’. Hence seeing an acupuncturist can be helpful for a huge range of conditions and problems.

For example we regularly successfully treat patients with conditions such as pain (including arthritis), depression or lethargy, anxiety, panic attacks, PMS, digestive problems, morning sickness, neuropathy, headaches, sprains and injuries, sciatica and back pain, insomnia, tennis elbow, period pains, hot flushes, high blood pressure, infertility ..... or just feeling 'under the weather' or not your usual self!

Acupuncture is often very helpful for long-term chronic health conditions such as symptoms or pain, that do not respond well to conventional medicine or where the side-effects of the medicines cause even more difficulties.

Does it hurt?

The needles used are actually super-fine stainless steel wire, so thin that 70 can fit in the hole of a normal injection needle!

At Acupuncture Middlesbrough, we practice Kiiko Matsumoto style Japanese acupuncture that uses very fine needles, making it a far more pleasant experience than normal Chinese acupuncture or acupuncture practised by other health professionals. Many patients find it so relaxing that they fall asleep during treatment.

For those patients who just don't want to try needles, we can treat almost as effectively using small magnets and other techniques.

What do I wear - do I have to get undressed?

You won't have to get undressed. Normally you will only need to expose your arms and lower legs and your abdomen. Your underwear will always stay on and you will be covered by towels so that only the part of the body to be worked on will be visible. If wearing trousers they should be loose enough that they go easily about 12 inches above the knee, and if you have a sleeveless vest, that is ideal.

What happens in a treatment?

I will use a number of different diagnostic methods to get a complete picture of your health and lifestyle, including taking a full medical history, reading your pulses, looking at your tongue and pressing for sore areas on your body including your tummy. Based on this, I will put together your personal treatment plan. I will then painlessly insert some very fine acupuncture needles at various selected acupuncture points based on my diagnosis. For those patients who cannot tolerate needles I use other gentler techniques such as magnets, warmth or acupressure.

Price

Treatment are only £30 and last about an hour. The number of treatments you will need will depend on your personal heath history. The longer you have had a problem the more treatments it may take, but the average patient comes for about four treatments.
