Health Massage Techniques

We provide a range of massage techniques that are gentle, effective, suitable for almost everyone and produce lasting results.

They are effective because they are targeted and they work on the muscle structure (which may have caused the issue that we are treating and if unaddressed can produce a re-occurrence).

Massage is a key component to balance all of the body’s systems in order to keep you well. It has many positive effects on:
  • Circulation of blood
  • Drainage of the lymphatic system - to flush out any toxins that have built up within tissue
  • Movement and function of joints
  • Reduction of chronic pain
  • Better muscle function – producing less stress on bones and joints
Our treatment styles include;
  • Tui Na Massage
  • Sports Massage and Taping Therapy
  • Emmett Technique
  • Gua Sha
  • Hivamat deep Tissue Oscillation Massage
  • Facial Revitalisation
Click here to find out more about our treatments, or call us on 01661 823333 to discuss which treatment would be of most benefit to you and your needs.

Acupuncture and Acupressure

Acupuncture
An increasingly popular treatment within healthcare and amongst practitioners of musculo-skeletal (MSK) techniques, acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) learning and it is about stimulating the body’s energy, relieving tension and supporting the body’s considerable propensity to keep itself well.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends acupuncture as a treatment option for lower back pain. NICE makes this recommendation on the basis of scientific evidence.

Electroacupuncture
Electroacupuncture works according to the same principles as acupuncture and has similar applications e.g. pain management. It works by sending electrical impulses through the channels, muscles and nerves.

Acupressure
Similar to acupuncture and working on the same principles, this treatment works by applying physical pressure with fingers to trigger points, with the aim of clearing blockages in the energy meridians.
When these trigger points are stimulated, this can release muscular tension, promote circulation of blood, and enhance the body's ‘life force energy’.
These therapies can be accompanied by Moxibustion, Cupping therapy and other more traditional techniques to improve circulation.

Microsystem Therapy

Microsystem therapies work because they focus on reflexes / meridians in the hands, feet and ears that are related to parts of the body such as organs or glands that we are interested in.

There are particular points that can be stimulated for different purposes including for smoking cessation / addiction treatment through release of endorphins to calm the system and also focus the mind.

Korean Hand Therapy
Korean Hand Therapy is used to reduce / alleviate pain and support recovery from illness in those cases where pressure cannot be applied to the body. As a microsystem therapy it works by stimulating any of the 14 micro-meridians and 345 acupuncture points on our hands, using either finger pressure or needles.

Auriculotherapy
Auriculotherapy is focused on the external ear and is similar to full body acupuncture in its effects and applications and can be done without needles with the use of a gentle electronic device stimulation .
This is useful for chronic problems and for recovery from strokes as it stimulates energy through the meridians. It also works well with all aspects of pain management, acute and chronic illness as well as addictions.

Reflexology
Reflexology is a form of therapeutic massage in TCM that is applied to the feet and/or hands.
Through application of pressure on these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and promotes the natural function of the related areas of the body.
Reflexology massage can promote overall wellness; enhances mood, aids sleep, helps relieve tension and stress as well as leaving you feeling light, energized and with a sense of well-being.

Relaxation and Healthy Activity

Qigong
Translated as ‘Life Energy Cultivation’, this technique is a combination of posture, breathing techniques and mental focus.
Qigong allows for increased state of awareness (‘mindfulness’) and supports relaxation, healthy habits and focus in all aspects of your life.
The National Qigong Association in the USA has identified that:
“The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions”.
The result is a calm, relaxed state of mind and it is a great way to maintain overall health and is suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness.
From a philosophical perspective qigong is believed to help develop human potential, allow access to higher realms of awareness, and awaken one's "true nature".

Meditation
Meditation is a technique to bring the body and the mind into harmony to help you confront and deal with stressors in your life which can exacerbate and/or cause new health issues.
Health benefits include helping to lower blood pressure and reduce stress and a wide range of psychological benefits such as reduced anxiety and negative emotions. It can also improve attention and mindfulness; clearing your mind to help you think better.
This can be applied to support smoking cessation or recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs.
