About Us
I am a Human Givens Psychotherapist, Hypnotherapist, Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistics Programming (NLP), and a Registered General Nurse. Inner Harmony was established in 2003 as a counselling and stress management service, offering counselling for individuals and couples, workshops and seminars for organisations and most recently, personal retreats. My practise is based in Perth, and my clients travel from all over Scotland and England for therapy and a personal retreat.

At all times my aim is to promote the health and well-being of people I come into contact with.

My Background

Whilst working as a nurse I was well aware of how stress was a major health issue and I often wondered how I could improve the health of individuals affected by this ‘dis-ease' of the modern world.

In 1998 I established a Renal Support Group (RSG) to meet the psychosocial needs of renal patients and their families. The aim was to provide a forum where patients and their families could come together in an informal setting and receive information and support on different aspects of the illness and its treatment. I also began to study subjects such as ‘How to break the cycle of depression’ and ‘Effective anger management’, and in the process learnt about a new approach to emotional health and clear thinking. It was called 'Human Givens Therapy'. This approach made so much sense to me and I realised that this was how I could help other people live happy, healthy lives.

Since completing my Diploma as a Human Givens Psychotherapist, I have added many more complementary tools to my kitbag by completing further training in Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The combination of these approaches has increased my professional expertise, given me an understanding of the brain, and taught me the principles and techniques to deal effectively with the most common emotional disorders. Although I was sceptical at first, I have found EFT to be a particularly useful technique that blends well with my overall approach to Emotional Health. Although “tapping on the body” to make you feel better seems a strange concept, I have found the results to be truly amazing.

For the past twelve years I have also been a volunteer with the Fife branch of Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland - a national charity that provides free counselling to anyone who contacts us. Initially I worked as a bereavement counsellor and I am now participating as a counselling supervisor. I have also spent many years on the management committee. I continue to attend regular training on matters relating to bereavement.

As a therapist I ensure good practice and commitment to my continued professional development. I agree to uphold the ethical and professional standards of the following organisations of which I am a member:

  • Human Givens Institute (MHGI)
  • UK Guild of Hypnotist Examiners (UKGHE)
  • Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC)

I hold a current enhanced disclosure certificate from the CRBS.

I am pleased to say that over the years I have contributed to improving the emotional and physical health of individuals troubled with stress and stress-related illnesses. I have helped clients:

  • Free themselves from emotional problems such as anxiety, anger and depression to enable them to enjoy life once again.
  • Who have been traumatised by abusive relationships, car accidents, combat experience and complications of child-birth to live their life without flashbacks or bad memories.
  • Who have low confidence or no self-belief and who feel panicky and cannot sleep at night, to restore harmony and balance to their emotional energy, as well as achieve a greater sense of control, confidence and self-esteem.
  • Overcome addictions, compulsive behaviour, fears or phobias so they feel in control.
  • Adjust to loss and grief and find purpose and meaning in life again.

The above is just a sample of the varied problems that I have helped my clients to resolve so they can live happy, healthy lives once again.

As you explore my website you will see that I can offer you Therapy for Emotional Health or the opportunity for a Personal Retreat. A personal retreat can really make a difference to your life in a short time and includes intensive therapy to enable you to resolve your difficulties.

I would like the opportunity to help you with your issues, so please contact me, Jeannette Goodrum, so we can discuss your personal needs.

What can you expect from counselling?
An effective counsellor or psychotherapist:

  • Understands depression and how to lift it
  • Helps immediately with anxiety problems such as panic attacks, nightmares, post traumatic stress and phobias
  • Is prepared to give information and advice as needed
  • Will not use jargon or ’psychobabble’ or tell you that counselling or psychotherapy has to be ‘painful’
  • Will not dwell unduly on the past
  • Will be supportive when difficult feelings emerge, but won’t encourage people to get emotional beyond the normal need to ‘let go’ of any bottled up feelings
  • May assist you in developing your social skills so that your needs for affection, friendship, pleasure, intimacy, connection to the wider community etc can be fulfilled
  • Will help you to draw and build on your own resources (which may be greater than you think)
  • Will be considerate of the effects of counselling on the people close to you
  • May teach you to relax deeply
  • Will help you to think of your problems in new, more empowering ways
  • Uses a wide range of techniques as appropriate
  • May ask you to do things between sessions
  • Will take as few sessions as possible
  • Will increase your self confidence and independence and make sure you feel better after each consultation
