SERVICES

Welcome to Healing Herb

Healing Herb is run by Anita Misson, B.Sc., M.N.I.M.H., Medical Herbalist.

Anita is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (N.I.M.H.).

Members of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists are trained to diagnose diseases and to physically examine patients to check for signs of illness. Herbalists are also trained to prescribe herbs safely alongside orthodox medication in the treatment of disease.

N.I.M.H. members are bound by its professional code of ethics, which requires them to maintain patient confidentiality and to update their skills in line with the latest developments in herbal practice. Therefore, Healing Herb patients can be assured that they are in competent and caring hands.

Anita also has a psychology degree and believes that this enhances her practice, as she fully appreciates how the mind and body affect each other. She aims to provide personalised healthcare which seeks to restore the patient to health by addressing the physical, emotional and social causes of their illness.

Healing Herb operates in two locations, Parbold and Ormskirk (Lancashire). Please see the Contact page for full details of locations.

As well as dispensing herbal medicine, Healing Herb also sells a range of herbal products designed to promote health and treat minor ailments, for example, herbal creams and a variety of herbal teas.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine, treating illnesses with plants, has been used since records began. People using herbal medicine do not usually suffer side effects, therefore it may be particularly beneficial to patients who have suffered adverse reactions to drugs or who may be taking one drug to counter another’s side effects. Herbal medicine is also suitable for children.

Medical Herbalists who are members of NIMH (the National Institute of Medical Herbalists) are trained to diagnose illness as a doctor would, but will use a different, holistic approach to treatment and try to help the body to cure itself of the underlying problem. Herbalists also know when it is best to refer a patient to other practitioners for treatment.

What happens at appointments?

At the first appointment, details of your current problem will be discussed, as well as taking a detailed medical history. The herbalist will also be interested in your diet and any medication that you are currently taking. Your blood pressure will be taken and if any other physical examination is appropriate, this will be performed if you agree.

A combination of herbs will be prepared according to what the herbalist feels you need. You will have another appointment after a couple of weeks to discuss the changes in your health once you have started taking the herbs. The third appointment is likely to be a month later. The number of appointments required will depend on your condition and how you respond to the herbs.
