Mind Body Technique is a combination of deep tissue massage, advanced stretching and mind relaxation/progressive muscle relaxation.

The basic principle of MBT is to deeply relax the client using mind relaxation voice therapy combined with physical therapy i.e. rocking/shaking, massage and stretching allowing the client to totally relax into a state where the therapist can then perform deep tissue massage manipulation, and stretch muscle structures, including mobilizing joints to a point that would otherwise be very difficult if the client was 'muscle guarding', or contracting back against the movements you are trying to perform.

We have all had the clients who, lovely as they are, cannot 'switch off' and make it difficult for you to actually get the work your trying to achieve done, due to them subconsciously holding back, due to either that they are nervous, or that they simply feel they cannot relax properly or they talk through the therapy therefore not focusing on what your trying to achieve etc. So, imagine if you could get them into a mindful state where they are totally relaxed, but, at the same time focusing on what you are doing, therefore we are working together to achieve the results you're aiming for i.e. using the body and mind as one.

Relaxing the Mind shuts off the muscle spasm cycle, this allows increased movement, sedates the pain perceiving nerves, and causes complete muscle relaxation, allowing the Therapist to stretch shortened muscle groups, and to break adhesions caused by scar tissue, as well as a lovely dream like hour of relaxation.

What to expect on the day!

The Workshop will basically be a lot of practical 'hands on' training and learning the techniques.

You will work on each other if there is more than two in a workshop or if you are doing a one to one session then a volunteer body will be there.

There will be a full demonstration to begin so you can see the routine. Please bear in mind, whilst the routine designed is a comprehensive full body deep massage with stretching and voice relaxation techniques please don't feel you have to follow this exactly when you use it on your clients. You can of course take from it what you want or you can follow it step by step, it's entirely up to you. You can in fact mix it with your existing Therapy, it's basically the principles you will be learning.

You will then be shown a short demo on you so you can 'feel' what is trying to be achieved with the relaxation mixed with the physical work, as it's important for you to understand the concept first hand.

Then comes the fun part - Practice, practice, practice, where of course you will be assisted and supervised. You will take it in turns to be the 'body' and we will swap everyone around so you get to practice on different body types etc.

At the end of the day there will be a extra hour you can use for free if anyone wants to stay for additional practicing etc.

Testimonials
I was looking for a bodywork therapy that would really help to relax both my body and mind, so I could really let go. Despite the proliferation of therapies out there, this is not easy to find. With mind body technique I found it. The experience was absolutely blissful. I was able to fully relax in a way I had not been able to in previous massages and I have tried lots of different styles. Mark is a wonderful therapist, warm and caring, as well as extremely professional. Highly recommended!

Thinking about it how a Therapist can work on someones body without engaging there mind and focusing there thoughts on there body seems somewhat off balance, MBT is years ahead of it's time I can never get a standard treatment ever again.

James Johnson. Company Director Surrey.

When you know your going for a Sports massage or deep tissue work you go knowing 'it's going to hurt' so how Mark was able to work with such depth and quality into my muscles whilst keeping me mentally relaxed but concentrated on the whole session WITHOUT any need whatsoever to 'winch' once was unbelievable.. I am now also personally using the visualization techniques to help me with my running with huge results.. it's magic. Mark's passion and enthusiasm is infectious.

Maria Harper. Busy Mum Housewife and Marathon Runner.

Mindbodytechnique is a great tool to learn and to perform on the clients in order to relax them on many levels. As an experienced and qualified Sports massage therapist I was pleasantly surprised how many more effective techniques I have learnt from Mark during our one to one workshop! This workshop totally changed my approach to the treatments I used to give.I have realised how extremely important is to know how to relax mind first if you are aiming to relax muscles ,particularly in cases when giving deep tissue massage and trying to get deeper into the muscles or getting rid of adhesion and scar tissue. Also many advanced techniques ,such as MET and STR , are much easier to perform with incorporation of Mindbodytechnique.

Amazing results! I am successfully applying it on my clients and they have noticed already that my treatments became much more effective and they are able to relax even more.

Mark, many thanks for the new knowledge and wonderful workshop!I am looking forward to do more workshops with you in the nearest future.

About the founder

Hi, my name is Mark Thompson. I am a Sports Therapist. After gaining my qualification in 1998, I successfully ran my own clinic in London for 12 years. I have worked at international level with the Great Britain Paralympic Swimming Team. With at least 8000 massage/therapy sessions under my belt I am pleased to say I am still going strong. I also served with the Royal Navy and traveled to many parts of the world listening and learning to many different cultures which helped me form a good understanding of people and gave me a open mind.

Ever since I was young, I have always had a fascination with the mind and how it worked, and without knowing the science back then I would visualize or 'day dream' of myself playing particular sports that I used to enjoy. So, for example, I used to imagine myself scoring goals in football, or bowling someone out in cricket or imagining myself in daily life but in a successful happy way and I would then try and experience the emotions and feelings associated with these achievements, I would hear the crowd clapping and my teammates congratulating me etc I would then feel and picture in my mind the sense of pride etc, to my amazement, what I had actually thought about, and seen in my mind, would often be the reality played out in 'the real world'

As we now know, the mind and body are so closely connected. 'What we think and how we feel has a powerful influence on our bodies'

So, as I went through my life journey, I always tried to use Visualization as a positive tool. After becoming a Therapist and becoming involved with people from all walks of life, especially the Sports teams and sports people I treated, I noticed that although there are many types of 'physical therapists/body workers', and many types of 'mind' workers/therapists, it was strange how rarely these boundaries would cross. For example, you would have a physical body worker working on someones body, and you would have a mind therapist working on someones mind, but rarely would you see a combination of both, I found this strange. So, in my own way, I started to incorporate Relaxation mind techniques (guided imagery) into my sessions, for example, whilst I had my forearm deep into someones tight hamstring, with them screaming out in pain, wanting to whack me around the head, I would have firstly got them to a relaxed mind state, so that now they allowed the afore mentioned forearm to flow with minimal resistance, but maximum benefit. Not only that, although very relaxed, they would be totally focused on what was trying to be achieved, as opposed to what they were going to have for dinner that night. This, also applied to the range of motion and advanced stretching of muscles, you could achieve along with the mobilization of joint movement. All because you got them to relax and engage there minds.

Although I have personally been using these techniques for many years with great success, I have now put together mindbodytechnique (MBT) into an easy to apply, easy to understand workshop, where you can learn and practice the techniques so you can incorporate them into your own therapies. Whether it be as a whole session/treatment, or just using certain techniques on your clients, as and when you feel necessary.

Please Note: you do not need to have any qualifications or background in any mind therapy, or, in fact in physiotherapy, sports therapy, advanced stretching etc, as long as you are a qualified massage therapist having completed your course in anatomy and physiology then you can easily learn and use these techniques.
