Hypertension

Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. The resting blood pressure needs to be 140/90 or over consistently to be diagnosed as having hypertension. Hypertension is a risk factor for heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and diabetes, meaning that you may be more likely to develop these conditions. There are often no symptoms, so it is important that blood pressure is checked regularly. Essential hypertension is when the cause is not known while secondary hypertension is high blood pressure resulting from an underlying cause. Treatment options include medication, treating the underlying cause, and making lifestyle changes such as losing weight, quitting smoking, getting regular exercise, dietary changes, and reducing alcohol consumption. You could also opt for fish oil supplements, nutritional supplements, and relaxation therapy.
