Huntington’s Disease

Huntington’s disease is a genetic disorder in which a protein is produced abnormally, leading to involuntary movements and progressive mental deterioration. Symptoms in the early stages include mood swings, depression, irritability, being fidgety, restless or clumsy, trouble driving, trouble learning new things, trouble remembering things, and trouble making decisions. As the disease progresses, a person will have increasing trouble concentrating on intellectual tasks, having difficulty feeding themselves, have difficulty swallowing, and have uncontrolled body movements. Treatment options include medication, exercise therapy, speech therapy, and nutritional therapy.
